Norcross Elementary Students to Enter National PTA Reflections Contest

With the NAA poised to do even more collaboration with our local schools the board members are excited to be working with upcoming talent. Go Norcross Elementary!

The students of Norcross ES are gearing up for some serious competition!

Designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education, the PTA Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.

Each year, the PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme, and students submit entries to a local PTA or PTSA. Nationally,
the program has six arts areas—dance choreography, film production, literature,
musical composition, photography, and visual arts—and four grade
divisions—primary, intermediate, middle/junior, and senior.

The Norcross Arts Alliance will be partnering with the school on its inaugural entry and will be assisting with selecting the winners.  With just over 60 entries to be judged, local artists Anne Labaire, Susie Schklar, Lori Sturgess and Norcross Art Fest organizer Cindy Flynn will be on hand to do the honors.  Six winners
will be selected to move onto the Gwinnett County level.  Winners from the county move on to the State contest.  The PTA Reflections Art Contest is held throughout the United States.

This year’s theme is diversity, and according to art teacher Bobbie Adamczyk; “The students were asked create a piece of artwork showing what diversity means to them.  They had to come up with original ideas, and she was not allowed to show them what to do.  They had to title their work and write an artist's statement”.

Ms. Adamczyk also went on to say “Georgia is always a strong force in the contest but this will be the first year Norcross Elementary has participated in many years.  My hope is that this program will grow and will enrich our school's artistic and academic experiences.  Participation from the Norcross Arts Alliance during our first year back will encourage participation growth in the future and validate those who helped get things up and running”.
