Norcross, Get Ready to Rock Out for Fourth of July

The country is celebrating its 237th birthday - and Norcross is throwing a party.

This year one of the top names in rock bands, "Mother's Finest" is set to perform at the city's annual Independence Day celebration on July 3 with a huge fireworks display as the grand finale.

The evening starts at 4 p.m. with kids' attractions and street vendors. Then the music begins at 6:30 p.m. with "Heroes" opening for "Mother's Finest who takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are to begin around 9:30 p.m.

The group, Mother's Finest, was part of Atlanta's 1970s music scene and is still "well known for their funky rock rhythms and expressive R&B singing," said Tixie Fowler, public relations and marketing specialist for the City of Norcross in a press release.

The free concert takes place in the Lillian Webb Park near the downtown area. Seating is on the grass; bring blankets, chairs and coolers (no glass containers or tents allowed).

The historic streets of Norcross will be closed at 2 p.m. A free shuttle service into the downtown streets is available with free parking at the Norcross First United Methodist Church (2500 Beaver Ruin Road) and the Hopewell Baptist Church's Autry Street parking lot.

Shuttle service runs from 5 - 10:30 p.m. with drop off and pick up in front of City Hall and at the corner of S. Peachtree Street and Holcomb Bridge Road.

For those interested in continuing the celebration after the fireworks, Mojitos Cuban Bistro, Iron Horse Tavern and Z'Apata Mexican Restaurant will be open.
