Police Apprehend Norcross Man Wanted on Rape, Sodomy Charges

Joseph Tyler Sivonda, a suspected serial rapist, was taken into custody Thursday after a week-long search.

After a week-long search, Gwinnett County Police have apprehended a suspected serial rapist from the Norcross area. Joseph Tyler Sivonda, 23, was taken into custody Thursday morning (May 9), according to a news release from police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. "A team of Gwinnett County Police Department detectives, U.S. Marshals, and deputies from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit located Sivonda at an apartment in Duluth," continued Smith. He was staying with Tiffany Martin, 30, who also was arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon. Police: Man Tells Woman He's Gotten Away With Rape

Inside the Police Reports: The Norcross woman told police that he tried to rape her, too.

A Norcross woman reported to police last month that she'd received threatening and harassing text messages from a man who tried to rape her. According to the Norcross Police report, the local woman told authorities he recently tried to rape her at his residence in Atlanta after they went on three dates together. She said she didn't report the crime the night it happened because she was afraid of the man. After the attempted incident, the man started sending her text messages stating that he had a Glock 9mm ready to use if she or anyone else came to his house to start anything. Police Seek Additional Victims, Witnesses in Sex Crimes Case

Syed Hasan Abidi is believed to have used websites to lure young women for the purposes of prostitution and rape in Norcross and Gwinnett.

The Norcross Police Department, the FBI and Gwinnett County Police are seeking information on a man who was arrested and charged with sex crimes earlier this month. Syed Hasan Abidi, 31, of Atlanta, was arrested by Norcross Police on March 4 on charges of rape and aggravated sodomy. Later in the month, an investigation by the Gwinnett County Police Department Vice Unit determined that Abidi had been advertising opportunities for teenage girls to make money on various websites including craigslist.com and backpage.com, according to a news release Gwinnett spokesman Cpl. Gwinnett Police Arrest Burglary Suspect

A rape investigation led to the arrest.

An investigation into an alleged rape led Gwinnett County Police to a suspect in a string of convenience store burglaries. Police were called to a Sardis Drive residence on Jan. 27 to investigate a report of a suspicious woman. The woman claimed she had been raped by an acquaintance of hers at the home of Douglas McDaniel, 43. (Click here for related story) McDaniel had reportedly given the woman and her accused rapist a ride to his Buford home in a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan that matched the description of a vehicle used in several Buford burglaries. Man Arrested in Rape of Norcross Teen

Duoc Nguyen, of Lawrenceville, was wanted for on charges of burglary and rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office's Fugitive Unit arrested a Lawrenceville man Tuesday on charges of burglary and rape that had occurred in a Norcross home. Duoc Nguyen, 21, allegedly broke into the home and raped a 16-year-old girl inside, according to a press release from Lt. S. W. Smith of the Gwinnett Sheriff's Office. Norcros Police issued felony warrants for Nguyen for burglary and rape Sunday, Aug. 12. Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies spotted Nguyen leaving his home at 580 Avalon Forest Dr. in Lawrenceville on Tuesday, Aug. 14. They contacted Gwinnett County Police, who pulled over and arrested Nguyen a short distance away. He was taken to the Gwinnett County jail where he is being held without bond. Two Attempted Rapes Reported in Norcross Area

The incidents allegedly took place at Intown Suites on Willow Trail Parkway and a barbershop on Beaver Ruin Road.

Two attempted rapes were reported earlier this month at Intown Suites and a barbershop in unincorporated Norcross, according to police reports. The first reported incident took place May 1 at the Closet Boutique, a barbershop located at 1480 Beaver Ruin Road. Two women, the victim and witness who were both in their mid-twenties, met with Gwinnett County Police at the QuikTrip down the road around 12:38 a.m. to tell the details of the incident. The victim told police that she made plans to meet with a man at the barbershop to have sex with him. She and the other woman went to the barbershop, and they met up with the man and the owner of the shop. She and the man had sex in a room that had a bed in the shop. Police Arrest Alleged Rapist

Deivi Mauris Polanco was arrested Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in the Norcross area.

The suspect wanted for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in unincorporated Norcross was arrested Wednesday, according to the Gwinnett County Docket Book. Deivi Mauris Polanco was admitted into the Gwinnett County Jail at 9:35 a.m. May 2 for a number of charges: aggravated stalking, burglary, false imprisonment, kidnapping, rape, theft by taking, hijacking a car, interfering with a call for emergency assistance and violation of probation. Gwinnett County Police told WSB-TV that they took him into custody when he showed up at the jail for a hearing unrelated to the aforementioned incident. Police Seek Man for Kidnapping, Rape

A man from the Norcross area is wanted for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman.

Police are seeking a Gwinnett County man for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in unincorporated Norcross, according to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter. Investigators believe the man, Deivi Polanco, kidnapped the victim while she was walking into her apartment April 16 around 1:30 a.m. Wearing a mask, he allegedly bounded her hands and covered her face with duct tape, according to a synopsis from the investigator. He drove for 30 minutes and stopped at an apartment where he assaulted her multiple times. Man Arrested in SWAT Standoff May Be Serial Rapist

A man who was arrested last week after barricading himself in a Norcross apartment is being investigated for two other rape incidents.

A man who was arrested for aggravated sexual battery last week after a SWAT standoff in Norcross may be the suspect for two other rape incidents, according to 11Alive. Larry Anthony Davis is being looked at in cases reported at Las Palmas apartments and Bristol Court apartments on March 20 and March 18, 11Alive reported. Both incidents took place in unincorporated Norcross. "Immediately it came to mind that we had a suspect who had committed sexual assaults in the same area using sort of the same method of operation," Cpl. Jake Smith told 11Alive. Detectives Nab Rape Suspect Through DNA Match

A 27-year-old man has been linked to two rape incidents that have occurred in Norcross.

A 27-year-old man has been linked to two Norcross-area rape incidents, according to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department. Detectives were able to narrow down the suspect, Jerson Antonio Gomez, through a DNA "hit" on CODIS, the Combined DNA Index System. DNA samples from the two incidents were collected and submitted to the GBI Crime Lab, and they ended up matching Gomez's DNA. Gomez's warrant charges include kidnapping and rape in the first case and burglary, rape, false imprisonment and robbery in the second case, according to the press release by Gwinnett spokesman Cpl.
