May Trial Date Set for Lake Lanier Boating Suspect

Paul Bennett of Cumming is reportedly scheduled for trial May 20, 2013. He was indicted in connection with the deaths of Griffin and Jake Prince of Buford.

The man who has been indicted in Hall County in connection with the boating deaths of two Gwinnett youths at Lake Lanier has a trial date, according to a media report. The Gainesville Times has reported that Paul Bennett, a Cumming resident, will face trial May 20, 2013. Also, the next motions hearing reportedly is set for January 31. Bennett was indicted for homicide and boating under the influence in connection with the boating collision on June 18, 2012, that killed Griffin and Jake Prince of Buford. Authorities say Bennett's boat collided with a pontoon boat driven by the youths' father. Griffin Prince's body was recovered more than a week after the accident. Names Released of Lanier Boating Collision Victims

Brothers were from Gwinnett County. Search resumes Wednesday for missing teen.

Updated 5:49 p.m. Authorities have released the names of the victims from Monday's fatal boating accident on Lake Lanier, according to media reports. Nine-year-old Jake Prince was killed when a fishing boat crashed into a pontoon boat, and Prince's brother, Griffin Prince, 13, remains missing, WSB-TV website reported. The WSB report also said the children’s father, Michael Prince Jr., was driving the pontoon boat. The Prince family is from Gwinnett County. Paul J. Bennett of Cumming has been arrested and released on bond in connection with the crash. He faces boating under the influence charges, and other charges are possible. UPDATE: Man Faces BUI Charge in Lanier Boating Fatality

Man arrested in collision that killed boy, 9. A teen, reportedly his brother, also is missing.

Updated June 20 An arrest has been made in the case involving a fatality from the boating collision Monday at Lake Lanier, according to 11alive.com. At a news conference Tuesday morning, DNR officials announced the arrest of Paul J. Bennett in connection with the crash. The 44-year-old faces a charge of boating under the influence; the DNR said more charges are possible, including homicide by vessel and failing to give aid, the 11alive.com report said. The AJC reported that Bennett is from Cumming. DNR spokesman Stephen Adams said Bennett refused medical treatment when he was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
