Gwinnett Commissioners, Commission Chairman to Be Sworn in Sunday

The group swearing-in ceremony for Charlotte Nash, Tommy Hunter and Jace Brooks will take place at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.

Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner-elect Tommy Hunter, Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash and District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks will be sworn in this Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Center.  Nash, who has served 18 months as chairman since winning a special election in March of 2011, was unopposed in both the primary and general election and will begin a four-year term in January. Hunter defeated two-term commissioner Mike Beaudreau in the August runoff and was unopposed in the general election. He takes office in January. Brooks Takes Gwinnett BOC Office Monday

The former Suwanee City Council member will attend his first Gwinnett meeting Tuesday.

Jace Brooks, elected in July to represent Gwinnett BOC District 1, will be sworn into office Monday, Sept. 17. According to a Gwinnett County news release Friday, Brooks will attend his first Gwinnett BOC meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18. Brooks, a Suwanee City Council member from 2002-12, will be filling the remainder of the term that was vacated when Shirley Lasseter resigned in May amid federal bribery charges. He was the only qualifier for the special election in November to fill the unexpired term. Brooks was elected in July to the full term that begins in 2013. Brooks, McClain Interested in Gwinnett BOC Special Election

The Suwanee accountant and the former Suwanee Council member already have qualified for the regular District 1 vote.

The coming special election for the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners could become a contest between the people who already have qualified for the regular election. Suwanee accountant Laurie McClain said Sunday that she intends to qualify for the special voting for District 1, and former Suwanee City Council member Jace Brooks indicated strong interest in doing so. Brooks' Gwinnett BOC Campaign in High Gear

A recent fund-raiser in Duluth was to include some prominent names.

Updated 1:09 p.m., April 1. It already has been noted that Jace Brooks, Suwanee City Council member, has been accepting campaign contributions for election to the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. Those efforts continued last week with a fund-raising reception that was scheduled to include, among others, Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris and Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette. The event was held at the Georgia Trail golf course in Duluth. Suwanee Council Member Kevin McComber has a financial interest in that course. Also among the attendees listed were Greg and Tammy Shumate, who are listed as donors to the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation through Brand Mortage Company.
