Two all-Gwinnett finals highlight the second round of the Georgia High School Association girls soccer tournament. Greater Atlanta Christian Schools announced this week that it'll be offering iPad 2s in its elementary classrooms as part of its 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative. According to a statement from the school, at the beginning of the fall semester, every student in third through fifth grade will have his or her own iPad 2, and kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms will have access to an iPad lab. "The iPad’s adaptability makes it the right tool for our elementary students," according to a statement from the school. "The iPad provides students with opportunities to reinforce newly introduced concepts, multiple creative options to demonstrate what they have learned, and avenues to share their creations with teachers, parents and classmates. …

Greater Atlanta Christian Schools has been nominated in two categories for the Shuler Hensley Awards, also known as The Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards. Announced in a press release from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation, GAC has been recognized for it's production of "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." The show has been nominated for the Choreography category, student Jacob Baker has been given a nod in the Supporting Actor category for his role as Gaston. GAC is among 42 high schools from 12 counties that have been nominated in the awards' 15 categories. Greater Atlanta Christian School finished in second place at the Class AA traditional wrestling tournament last weekend. It's the school's first traditional state trophy, according to a press release. A new school record was set when 11 GAC wrestlers made it to the state tournament with five senior wrestlers placing in the tournament. “It was a pleasure to work with this team," said Coach Jeff Harsh. Seniors who placed in the tournament: Caleb Bumpers, fifth; Parker Embry, fourth; Ethan Tolbert, fourth; Zach Feuerback, second; and Parker Fair, third. Spartans lose hard-fought play-in game, miss state playoffs.
Greater Atlanta Christian lost an exciting back-and-forth game to the Lovett Lions 35-28 in a Region 6-AA play-in game at Kilpartrick Memorial Stadium Friday night, ending its season earlier than most expected. Lovett's Grant Haley opened the scoring with an 72-yard run, reversing field after a few steps and dashing to the end zone for the first of many big plays made by the sophomore. The Spartan offense was able to move the ball early, but failed to capitalize deep in Lion territory. As quarterback Delano Spencer and running back Lavondre Nelson tried to establish GAC's running game, Spencer was forced to use all three of the allotted timeouts in the first quarter.
