'Santaland Diaries' Canceled at Lionheart

The Norcross community theatre says the David Sedaris production restricts non-professional theatres to perform it.

Originally scheduled for its debut Wednesday, "The Santaland Diaries" has been canceled at Lionheart Theatre due to production restrictions. The Norcross community theatre company released this statement on its website: "We are sad to announce that we will not be allowed to produce The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris after all. Per the publisher of the play, 'there are restrictions in place that currently limit the availability of this play for non-professional (community theatre) use.' Those of you purchased your tickets on line will be receiveing [sic] your refunds via PayPal soon." Lionheart Theatre Doing David Sedaris Holiday Show

The “adults only” show is written by the hysterical NPR contributor and author.

The Lionheart Theatre will present a holiday comedy Dec. 2 to 11, written by “This American Life” contributor and best-selling author David Sedaris, known for his unique brand of dark, self-depricating humor. “The Santaland Diaries” was one of the first humor essays that Sedaris broadcast on National Public Radio, catapulting him into the spotlight. The story is a hysterical account of Sedaris’ time working as an elf at Macy’s during Christmastime. It was later adapted for the stage.  Sedaris published five series of essays afterward, four of which landed on the national bestseller list. His essays are known for their, um, adult honesty and the Lionheart Theatre Company stresses that the show is “for adult elves only.” The show is directed…
