Gwinnett County Police are investigating a series of car break-ins that began in October 2012 and have continued into January 2013. Detectives have connected a total of 21 cases to the same suspect, according to Cpl. Jake Smith. Typically the suspect targets vehicles in parks and churches, Smith said. This suspect has used victims’ credit and debit cards at several retail locations following the break-ins. Ritter described him as a black male of average height and build who appears to be in his 30s or 40s. He has been seen using an older model white pickup truck and a four-door passenger car of unknown color. More Ford trucks were targeted by a thief or thieves last weekend in the Mall of Georgia area. Gwinnett County Police responded to four car break-ins on Jan. 19 -- two on Mall of Georgia Boulevard and two on Buford Drive. The incidents are the latest in a string of January car break-ins in which the locks on Ford F150s and Ford 250s have been pried or punched. According to Major John Strickland, GCPD North Precinct Commander, the department is closely monitoring the recent entering autos. "We are working closely with the Mall of Georgia Security and have increased patrols," Strickland wrote in an email to Patch. Updated Oct. 18 at 8:28 p.m. A resident of Sunset Hills subdivision in downtown Norcross called the police late last night when he saw a suspicious group of men in the neighborhood. A second phone call came in from Longview, just down the street. The resident was still on the phone with the dispatcher, when officers rolled into the subdivision and gave chase to the suspects, according to the Norcross PD. The men split into two groups but the officers were able to track them down with the help of the residents, who called in to report that people were running through their backyards, according to Cpt. Window smashed at the local park, leading to stolen purse and four fraudulent credit card charges.
Linda Perez’ nanny and daughter were playing at Thrasher Park on Monday morning. When they returned to the nanny’s car, they found the window busted and her purse taken from under the seat. The nanny had four fraudulent charges on her credit card, totaling $1500, that they reported to the police. Perez said that her nanny spoke to another person who frequently visits the park in the morning, who reported a similar break-in last month. They shared the location of the four fraudulent charges with the Norcross PD, hoping that they could zero in on the person through video footage at the stores—but nothing has come up yet.
