Norcross is set for a wet week of cooler temperatures as a cold front moves into Georgia. Freezing temperatures could arrive next week.
Following a warm weekend in the 70s, Georgia is set for rain, cooler temps and maybe even a blast of cold air from the north. A rainy Monday and Tuesday accompany cooler weather and a cold front, as it moves from out west to the east by midweek, according to The Weather Channel. It's not yet clear how far south the cold air would reach as the jet stream dips. Forecasters give Norcross a 90 percent chance of rain Monday, when the high is expected to reach 63, and 80 percent chance on Tuesday with a high of 57, according to the National Weather Service. The Georgia Transportation Board will use a new website and Facebook and Twitter, as well as the old standards of radio and television, to give future updates on inclement weather and road conditions.

Residents in Georgia will now be able to get updates of inclement weather and road conditions from the Georgia Department of Transportation via Facebook, Twitter and a newly designed website. A preview of the new inclement weather section of the department’s website was a highlight at the November meeting of the Georgia Transportation Board. The page went live Nov. 17 and can be viewed at www.dot.ga.gov/winterweather. In addition to the new webpage, social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter will be used to distribute information in the event of severe weather. Another round of snow is expected in Norcross tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow across much of North and Central Georgia. The advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until noon Thursday. A weak low pressure system is expected to move across the Gulf of Mexico tonight with an associated fast moving upper level disturbance. A stationary cold air mass will allow snow accumulations throughout the advisory area. A winter weather advisory means periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain may cause travel difficulties. Snow falls fast and sticks, starting around 10:15 p.m. Sun. night. Gwinnett County Public Schools closed Mon. and Tues.
Updated 4:11 p.m. Mon., Jan. 10. A beautiful blanket of white snow hit the ground around 10:15 p.m. in Norcross. It stuck immediately, creating a few inches of base after only 10 minutes. Gwinnett County Public Schools are closed on Monday and Tuesday and a winter weather advisory remains in effect. Gwinnett County government offices and Norcross City Hall are also closed. There will be no City Council meeting tonight. In addition, Air Tran has cancelled all flights Monday. Georgia Power said that at approximately 8 a.m., 4,000 people in Georgia lost power. The latest forecast calls for wintry precipitation beginning Sunday night and continuing throughout the day Monday. At this time, the NWS expects snow to begin falling Sunday evening in the metro area and continue until Monday morning. Central Georgia will experience a mixture of rain and sleet. The snow is expected to switch over to freezing rain and sleet by Monday afternoon in the Atlanta metro area. Accumulations are expected to continue through early Tuesday morning. The snow, freezing rain and sleet mixture could create hazardous conditions on area roadways. North Georgia could see snowfall total from 5-7 inches. Gwinnett public safety personnel kept busy by icy conditions Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday night's icy weather had a tremendous impact of everyday life all around metro Atlanta. In Gwinnett, it meant hundreds of accidents and delayed school openings. It also kept county public safety personnel on their toes.
