The largest solar canopy in Georgia uses Norcross-made panels.
With the installation of the 4906th Suniva panel last week, a MARTA bus terminal and repair site will be powered by the sun. The ambitious transit project will deliver one megawatt of power to the Laredo Bus Terminal in Decatur. The solar canopy is now the largest in Georgia. The cells cover 220 parking stalls for MARTA buses, creating a shade structure while simultaneously catching the sun’s rays to create power, Connie Krisak, MARTA’s project manager and head of sustainability efforts, told Norcross Patch as the project kicked off. Hope seen in manufacturing, a trend that plays out in Norcross.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a release that the increase was primarily due to seasonal workers being laid off—with about 80 percent in the education field. In addition to 24,500 jobs lost in government and education, business services lost 2,200 and construction lost 1,800, according to the Department of Labor. The Labor Commissioner did see a bright spot in manufacturing, with a gain of 1,400 positions. The Department of Labor reports that this is the first time there has been an increase in manufacturing jobs in…

Earlier this year, the company made a $15 million investment to shift production to a new, higher-efficiency solar cell and, last week, the company announced it will expand its 100,000-square foot plant and headquarters in Norcross again. The expansion not only increases the facility's square footage, but will also provide 11 new jobs in a market where unemployment is hovering just north of 9 percent. Suniva has already hired 35 new employees since the start of this year. Company officials say they expect to complete the latest expansion by next month or early September. Suniva evolved …
