Table reservations for Norcross' Summer Concert Series begin March 1.
It may be winter still, but warm weather will be here before you know it, and everyone in the city knows what that means: the Norcross Summer Concert Series. Guests are allowed to bring lawn chairs, blankets, food and drinks while listening and dancing to the music on Friday nights in Thrasher Park, but there's also the option of having your very own table located at the front of the stage and provided by the city. Table rentals often sell out fast, so the city of Norcross is accepting "reservation requests" in order to be as fair as possible. The request does not guarantee a table, according to the city website, but it is a first-come, first-serve approach where everyone's name automatically goes on a list. Instructions on requesting a …

Memorial Day weekend has some big events happening around town.
Staying in town this Memorial Day weekend? You're in luck, because there's some big things happening around Norcross. This Saturday is the annual downtown Strawberry Stroll, complete with a 5k, tons of kids activities, and of course, lots and lots of strawberry delights. The 5k starts at 10 a.m. at Thrasher Park (make sure to sign up here or at the race) and the festivities start afterward. Get ready for a pie-eating contest, a bake-off contest, bounce houses, face painting and more in between all those strawberry craziness. To top it off, the funds from the activities and the run will benefit kids in need through Kingdom Kids. Memorial Day is right around the corner, and you know what that means for Norcross: the Summer Concert Series. The music kicks off this Monday in Thrasher Park with a whole evening dedicated to the red, white and blue. The city of Norcross has a tribute planned for the country's veterans and soldiers at 7 p.m., followed by rock and R&B-style band The American Flyers at 7:30 p.m. As always, chairs and tables are available to rent, but they fill up fast. The Journey tribute band Departure takes the stage Friday night as part of the summer concert series.
Departure is going to rock out Thrasher Park this Friday, Aug. 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The concert is free and to-go picnics are available from the eateries downtown. Bass player, Doug Ballard, said you can expect a high-energy, high-quality show. “(Lead singer) Brian Williams from a vocal standpoint is as close to Steve Perry and that range and quality sound as I think you can find in a Journey tribute band,” he said.
