Snow, sleet and black ice are possible. Like others, GCPS officials are monitoring the situation.
Norcross and Gwinnett parents, be forewarned. It could be a last-minute decision early Friday before Gwinnett County school officials decide whether to cancel classes for that day. As of now, classes are still on for Friday, according to Gwinnett Schools' spokesperson Jorge Quintana. He added that the policy for the system, which has more than 160,000 students, is to wait as late as 6 a.m. on the given day before deciding whether to postpone classes. And given the nature of the current weather forecasts, it likely will be a last-minute decision. The National Weather service has talked of the possibility of snow and black ice late Thursday and into early Friday. Black ice is roadway ice from residual moisture, not from what falls during a …

Make this warming, Thai-inspired soup and eat in your pajamas.
If your driveway is anywhere near as steep as mine, the best shot you have of eating “out” has involved a very irritated pizza man. But the grocery store is still open, which means it’s time to cook. If there are two things this weather makes me think about it’s a big pot of curry and a big pot of soup. This dish that I made the other night combines the two. Curried Butternut Squash Soup 1 Tbsp peanut or canola oil 1 big clove garlic, mined 2 inches fresh ginger, minced About 7 cups butternut squash, peeled and cubed 4 cups vegetable broth 1 ½ Tbsp red curry paste 1 can coconut milk Serve with a salad and warmed pita bread, or whatever you can find in your fridge.

I remember getting out of school when they thought it was going to snow, only to have not even one flurry fall from the sky. The girls only watch “girlie shows” so they had no idea what might be coming. As the temperature started to drop I switched the TV from Dora to the news to look for Gwinnett County. Nothing, only north Georgia counties and private schools were cancelled. There is nothing like the mixture if excitement and …
Norcross police: "We consider every street in the city limits to be hazardous."
For a third day, officials warn residents to stay off the roads and in their houses. Norcross Police Captain Brain V. Harr says that the city considers all roads hazardous. "We consider every street in the city limits to be hazardous," he said. "They are being treated but those treatments are melting." He said today could be especially dangerous because it looks nice and sunny outside and people are tired of being cooped up in their homes. But Harr says the heat from car tires is melting the snow, and with a high of 25, that has a potential to refreeze into dangerous ice. "Some people don't know. What looks like water is actually ice," he said. Despite these warnings, traffic is trickling along in parts of Norcross, including the …
