Gwinnett Village CID Outlines Top Projects in Bike/Ped Study

The bicycle and pedestrian connectivity study covers the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road corridors in the greater Norcross area.

After months of researching possible bicycle and pedestrian routes for the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road corridors in the greater Norcross area, the Gwinnett Village CID has created a projects list that's on its way for finalization. And that list is pretty long: 71 projects, to be exact. "It's looking at the intersections and crossings, connections to transit, connections to the commercial properties in this area, and connecting the LCI communities and connecting to the city," said Alyssa Sinclair, project manager for Gwinnett Village. "This is looking [at the] big picture, where people want to go when they're walking and they're riding bicycles." While the study is a 20- to 30-year plan, six of the 71 projects are on a …

The Atlanta Regional Commission awarded a $48,000 grant to the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Council Votes to Keep Elected Officials Off Boards, Authorities

With a vote of three in favor, one against and one abstaining, the Norcross City Council on Monday voted to amend its ordinances and city charter to prohibit elected officials from serving on boards, commissions and authorities.

Clocking in at just less than 40 minutes, Monday’s September city council meeting was short, sweet and to the point. It wasn’t until the end that a little controversy ensued. That’s when Councilman Ross Kaul made his motion to change the city charter and ordinances “so that the mayor and council members are expressly prohibited from service on any board, commission or authority.” Before the motion could be voted on, though, Councilman Charlie Riehm countered with a motion of his own, one which would permit elected officials to serve on boards, commissions or authorities. That motion failed with only Councilman Andrew Hixson voting in favor of it. “It’s the right thing to do,” Hixson said. Kaul’s original motion then passed with Councilmen …

Pedestrian mobility improvements slated inside the city limits and along Buford Highway.

The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded a total of $500,000 in transportation enhancement grants to the City of Norcross and the Gwinnett Village CID. The money will be used on “pedestrian mobility” projects.  The CID was awarded $300,000 for Buford Highway pedestrian enhancements, while the City of Norcross was awarded $200,000 for sidewalk improvements inside the city limits, according to a CID release.  Officials from both groups have been working together with the common goal of improving connectivity in the area, creating streetscapes that beautify and improve safety for pedestrians. “We are excited to have been chosen to receive this grant and to be moving forward with a project that is sorely needed along Buford Highway,” …
