Lionheart Marketing Director Nominated in Fusion Art Awards

Sean Casey of Lionheart Theatre Co. in Norcross has been nominated for the Fusion ArtWorks! Gwinnett Art Awards, which will recognize contributions to the arts at Feb. 25 ceremony in Buford.

ArtWorks! Gwinnett will recognize contributions to art at the second annual “Fusion ArtWorks! Gwinnett Art Awards” Monday, Feb. 25, at the Buford Theatre and Community Center. The awards celebrate the artists, arts administrators, and citizens who support the arts countywide. Awards will given in more than a dozen categories, and this year’s nominees consist of almost 30 individuals and almost 20 companies and partnerships. Combined, the nominees represent seven municipalities from around Gwinnett, including Buford, Duluth, Grayson, Lawrenceville, Norcross, Snellville and Suwanee. Fusion tickets are $100. For Local Teen Playwrights, a Professional Reading

A playwriting class wraps up with a reading of their work by professional actors.

Imagine if, when you were a young, passionate student, a professional in your field could sit down and give you real-world advice. Pretty valuable. That’s what students in Sean Casey’s Summer Teen Playwriting Class experienced this past Saturday. Students, ages 12 to 19, were taught the basics of playwriting over the six-week class, which culminated with a table reading by professional actors in front of an audience of friends and family members.  Benefits of the course were apparent to the students. Russ Laney, Jr., whose piece "Coffee Shop Talk" focused on a conversation between an aging rocker and a record shop owner, believes the class has given his writing process more perspective. “It helps to take it out of your mind and see how …
