Publix has issued voluntary recalls of four separate Chinese-made dog treat products it sells in its stores. The chain issued recalls on Jan. 9 for Waggin' Train Dog Treats and Milo's Kitchen Dog Treats. Two days later, further recalls were issued for Publix Chicken Tenders Dog Chew Treats and Cadet Brand Chicken Jerky Treat. “As part of our commitment to food safety, including that of our four-legged family members, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director in a press release. No illnesses have been tied to three of the four products, but Publix customers can return all of these treats and receive a full refund of the purchase price. The recalls …

Orange is not the only Fall color to bring to the table. Yellow makes a fine addition!
Peruvian Grilled Chicken (Pollo a La Brasa) Peruvian Grilled Chicken can be grilled many ways. The whole chicken can be butterflied by removing the backbone and flattened. It can be quartered or you can use a vertical roaster or set the chicken upright on a can of beer half full or it can be grilled using a rotisserie. We chose use our Weber Rotisserie attachment and cooked two whole chickens at once. This recipe is for one whole chicken. The trick is to get the skin nicely roasted without drying out the chicken. It is important that you buy a 3-4 lbs. whole chicken because they are the tenderest and they fit into a gallon size Ziploc bag. Any larger and the chicken will be tough. It is a must to loosen the skin gently with your fingers …

Parsley, cilantro and oregano peak in the spring and fall. Here is a recipe that showcases them at their best!
Grilled Boneless Beef Short Ribs with Chimichurri Sauce This time of year my parsley, cilantro and oregano do exceptionally well in the garden. Cool weather seems to please these plants. Use the leaves at the top of the oregano stems which are the tenderest and have a bright flavor. The leaves on the lower part tend to be tough and less flavorful. I like to make chimichurri in the spring and fall when these herbs are at their peak. Chimichurri is an Argentinean sauce that is typically served with grilled meat. It is very simple to make. You basically mix everything together in a blender. The trick to making a small amount of sauce with herbs in it with a blender is to never use the puree speed. Always use the stir speed or the lowest speed…

All 85 employees were given the opportunity to move to another store.
The Publix grocery store in the Tree Trail Village Shopping Center closed its doors on Dec. 28—permanently. “The store had been underperforming for several years,” said Brenda Reid, community relations manager for the Georgia Publix stores, in an email. There were 85 associates working at the store, according to Reid, and all over them were given the opportunity to move to a different store. “No associates lost their jobs,” Reid said. There are no plans to open a replacement store at this time, but Reid points out that four additional Publix stores are location within about a 15-minute drive, including the store at 1625 Pleasant Hill Rd in Duluth and the store at Medlock Bridge and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Peachtree Corners. The …

I'm definitely disappointed that this Publix closed! I don't want to switch to Kroger and the other Publixes aren't as convenient. Oh well. :(   more ›
