Obama Soliciting Help From Citizens to Solve 'Fiscal Cliff'

The president is taking him message straight to the citizens via social media. Is he playing fair?

We've been inundated with news and commentary about President Barack Obama and Congress' struggle to find a point of compromise on the looming "fiscal cliff" issue. In a recent speech the president urges everyone to send a tweet to their congressmen to let them know they favor his middle class income tax cut program. And he took to Twitter on Monday to answer tweets from citizens with questions on his plan. Obama is the first president to use the social media to reach the masses. His latest message is posted on a website, Barack Obama, What Does $2,000 Mean to You. It's a simple question - he invites you to write back with a short message on the impact of an extra two grand would mean in your pocket rather than the government's coffers. …

The problem isnt that he using social media to spread his message, the problem is he has no message! A president is supposed to lead. He should be in a conference room in the White House with leaders from the House and Senate hashing out a deal. He makes a proposal, they counter. In the end they all meet in what passes for the middle. This guy says I want this, this and that and then he goes off …   more ›

What Do You Think About Limiting Protests at Military Funerals?

President Obama recently signed the "Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012" which will place restrictions on when protesters may appear at military funerals.

In a move sure to inflame First Amendment tensions, President Barack Obama has signed into law an act that will limit the activities of persons wishing to protest military funerals. The "Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012" requires groups that are protesting military funerals to restrict their activities to two hours before and two hours after the funeral itself. This act seems to fly in the face of the Supreme Court decision in Snyder v. Phelps, where the Court ruled 8-1 that the Westboro Baptist Church, a religious organization that pickets military funerals because of America's acceptance of homosexuality, is protected under the First Amendment to perform their demonstrations. Do you think this …

I think anyone who believes the first amendment has anything to do with this question needs to reread the constitution, or perhaps to read it for the first time instead of accepting the views of those who would bend it to favor what they think over what someone else thinks. To obstruct a funeral, military or otherwise, is nothing but the grossest display of narcissism, a breach of decency and a …   more ›

Speak Out: Supreme Court Upholds Obama Health Care Law

The requirement that most Americans must buy health insurance or pay a fine is ruled constitutional as a tax. How do you feel about the ruling?

In a 5-4 decision Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Obama's health care law in a splintered, complex opinion that appears to give President Obama a major victory, according to USA Today. Basically, the justices said that the individual mandate -- the requirement that most Americans must buy health insurance or pay a fine -- is constitutional as a tax. What do you think of the ruling? How do you think this will affect the November presidential election? Tell us in the comments below. Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative appointed by President George W. Bush, provided the key vote to preserve the landmark health care law. The controversial health care bill was first introduced to Congress in 2009, and Obama signed it …

Norcross Staffer Decorated the White House

Cate Kitchen got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to add holiday cheer to the Oval Office.

Inside the Oval Office, there’s a smaller, cozier office for the President. There is a place setting on the desk, which was John F. Kennedy’s, indicating that President Obama probably has his lunch there on occasion. And directly in front of that desk is a mantle that Norcross Welcome Center Coordinator Cate Kitchen decorated for Christmas just days ago. Kitchen was given the once-in-a-lifetime honor of decorating the White House over the Thanksgiving week, after a chance encounter at a gathering with her family. And, even more amazing, she was one of just a few out of hundreds of volunteers who were assigned to the group that decorated the West Wing, including the Oval Office, the Situation Room and the First Lady’s Office. “It was just …
