Developer Backs out on Buying Land Across The Forum; City of Peachtree Corners to Purchase Lot

In a surprise turn of events, the Peachtree Corners mayor announced Tuesday night that the city would follow through on its back-up contract to purchase the 20.6 acres of undeveloped property on S.R. 141.

Announced just a few months ago as the new developer of the "Roberts property," Bob Cheeley, has decided he will not follow through with the plans to purchase and develop the 20.6 acre tract of land across from The Forum. New Developer to Purchase Property Across The Forum

In a sudden turn of events, the Peachtree Corners City Council said Wednesday night that a private developer had put a contract on the 20.6-acre tract of land across from The Forum.

"We were surprised and pleased a market alternative presented itself," Mason said…

Peachtree Corners City Council Plans to Purchase Property Opposite The Forum

Leaders said they would seek to enter into a contract to purchase 20+ undeveloped acres.

There was only one item on the agenda for Monday night's Peachtree Corners City Council meeting - but it was a big one. The City of Peachtree Corners will pursue the purchase the 20+ undeveloped acres across from The Forum on S.R. 141. Becoming land owners was not the intention when the city was formed said Mayor Mike Mason in his opening remarks. But to avoid having the property developed into 250+ apartments, it ended up to be the city's only option. "We didn't know until October 2012 that Charlie Roberts (the current property owner at the time) had plans to sell it," said Mason. The new owner was Lennar, a Miami, Fla.-based apartment developer. "It was a big surprise to us," he added. Mason said the city looked for other options but …
