Chopper Predicts Weather for Opening Day

The Gwinnett Braves mascot hopes skies will clear up for the season opener Thursday at Coolray Field.

Updated, 5:10 p.m. The Gwinnett Braves announced Thursday afternoon that their season opener at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville has been postponed. First pitch against the Charlotte Knights was scheduled for 7:05pm Thursday.  The G-Braves' season will instead kick-off Friday with a single game against the Knights at 7:05pm. Gwinnett Pools Preparing To Open May 28

Special passes are available for county residents.

Gwinnett County acquatic centers are preparing to open May 28, and residents can purchase special FUNCARDS that will be valid at all Gwinnett pools. Gwinnett parks operates two indoor and seven outdoor leisure pools, four indoor competition pools, three indoor instructional pools, and one outdoor pool. Year-round, seasonal or 10-visit FUNCARDS are valid at all Gwinnett County pools, according to a county media release. All paying patrons (18-up) will be required to furnish proof of residency in order to avoid paying the non-resident rates. Gwinnett County residents have the option to purchase a Resident Passport as a convenient way to show proof of residency. Excitement in Air as G-Braves Opening Day Approaches

With all the expectations going to a 19-year old phenom in Julio Teheran, Gwinnett Braves manager Dave Brundage has tabbed veteran right-hander Rodrigo Lopez as the starter for the season opener Thursday night. Teheran will pitch on Friday night. Pitching coach Marty Reed feels this staff will be very good this year. Reed is in his first year with the G-Braves and third overall with the Braves organization. The rest of the rotation will be Todd Redmond, Jacob Thompson and Yohan Flande. Reed worked with Teheran the last half of last season at Mississippi in AA and felt he was ready to make the jump to AAA. "He is a tremendous prospect.
