Graduation Rates for Meadowcreek, Norcross Increase

The Georgia Department of Education released the 2012 graduation rates recently. Norcross High's rate increased by more than 5 percentage points while Meadowcreek's increased by 0.7 percent.

Gwinnett County and Norcross schools are doing better in terms of graduating students. Gwinnett's graduation rate increased more than three percentage points -- from 67.56 in 2011 to 70.98 percent in 2012, according to data released this week from the state Department of Education. Both Gwinnett high schools in Norcross have higher rates, too. In 2011, Norcross High had a graduation rate of 65.54 percent, and in 2012 the rate increased to 70.8 percent. For Meadowcreek High, the 2011 rate increased from 48.54 to 49.24 percent for 2012. These schools have helped the Gwinnett County beat the state average, too. Norcross' Autry Opens Up About Injury

Myles Autry is headed into his senior year, but he's still working on rehabbing his knee from an injury last football season.

Myles Autry is still working his way back from a football injury last season, but his spirits are high as he heads into his senior year. In an interview with BuckeyeGrove.com, the Norcross High wide reciever said he'd been afraid that colleges would retreat from his camp after tearing his knee ligaments in the semifinals last year. But, Autry says college programs have remained steady and kept up with his progress. In fact, he's received more than two dozen offers, according to Rivals.com. -- Which college football program should Autry chose? Norcross High's Winning Basketball Season Boosts MaxPreps Rating

Norcross High School is sitting pretty in the latest MaxPreps Cup rankings.

Norcross High School has jumped to the top of one well-known sports ranking, thanks to its winning girls and boys basketball championships. MaxPreps Cup standings place the Blue Devils as No. 1 currently, according to a May 20 report. The No. 2 spot is currently held by of Carmel High School in Indiana. The MaxPreps Cup ranks the top high school sports programs in the nation based on their success in a number of sports. Football, boys and girls cross country, volleyball, boys and girls basketball and wrestling are in the current standings. Once spring sports are added, the standings will likely change. Those final rankings will be published in July. No matter the final MaxPreps Cup rankings, Norcross High has had a stellar sports year. …

Boys Golf Earns Norcross Another State Title

The Blue Devils won the Class AAAAAA state championship Monday, adding another win to the high school's 2013 state titles.

Norcross High has earned another state title in sports, and this time it's for boys golf. The Blue Devils won against Peachtree Ridge on Monday in the Class AAAAAA state golf championship at Spring Hill Country Club, according to Gwinnett Prep Sports. The title win was Norcross' fourth this school year. The Blue Devils also won the AAAAAA title in boys basketball, girls basketball and football, which was the first time the team had ever played in the finals. Norcross High Principal to Address Graduates

William Bishop will address graduating seniors of Norcross High on May 24. He is completing his first full school year as the principal there.

Norcross High's principal William Bishop is one of the key speakers at the school's graduation this week, according to district officials.  Approximately 607 students will be graduating, with 120 of them as honor students. The ceremony takes place 8 p.m., May 24 at Gwinnett Center Arena. Bishop took over as principal in January 2012, and now he will be saluting those 600 graduates at the close of his first full school year at Norcross High. The school holds a special place for the principal, as he taught math there from 2005-2007 before becoming an assistant principal at Duluth High School. Chandler Massey Nominated for Third TV Emmy

The Norcross High graduate stars in the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives."

For Peachtree Corners former resident Chandler Massey, life keeps getting sweeter by the day. The former drama student at Norcross High has made it to the big league. He stars in the long-running daytime drama, "Days of Our Lives," and has been nominated for an Emmy for the third time. The awards take place on June 18. Massey, whose parents Lewis and Amy Massey live in Peachtree Corners, won his first Daytime Emmy in 2012. This year is the third time he's been nominated. "It feels great," said 22-year-old Massey in a report published by PEOPLE. "It's a huge honor and I'd love to have another piece of hardware but we'll see what happens in June." Norcross High School Relay for Life Team Raises Over $86,000

The Gwinnett County school's fund-raising efforts go to the American Cancer Society for its fight against the disease that affects so many lives. The NHS team came in second highest in the county in the amount raised.

The result: The Norcross High School Relay for Life team raised a total of $86,275.99. Those of you who attended on Friday witnessed how incredible our kids are at Relay. Meet the Valedictorians and Salutatorians for Norcross and Meadowcreek

Allison Fisher and Robert Hensey have been named Norcross High School's top students and Yonnatan Manmektew and My Duyen Vo for Meadowcreek High.

Gwinnett Public Schools recently released the names of the valedictorians and salutatorians from Norcross High and Meadowcreek High schools. The title of valedictorian is typically given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA. Photos of the honorees are included with the story. Valedictorian: Allison Fisher, daughter of Diane and Jeff Fisher, plans to attend Princeton University in the fall and majoring in engineering and computer science. Her career goals is to contribute to sustainable infrastructure worldwide. Three Norcross HS Students to Receive Foundation Scholarships

Emma Reidy, Allison Fisher and Christina Valentini are among 15 students to be awarded scholarships from the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund.

Each spring the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, Inc. coordinates a number of scholarships which are awarded to graduating seniors. Three Norcross High School students are among 15 Gwinnett County Public School Students to receive scholarships from the school district's Foundation. Students are invited to apply for the scholarships and are selected by committees made up of GCPS employees and community members. The winners are selected based on the student's essay, academic record and service to their community. Emma Reidy received a $2,500 scholarship from the Alton C. Norcross High Among Top Fundraising Teams for Gwinnett Relay for Life

The 2013 event is May 10-11 in Lawrenceville.

The 2013 version of the Gwinnett Relay for Life is near, and Norcross High is coming up big in fundraising. NHS ranks second in the most monies raised, with $46,184.31 pledged so far (as of the morning of May 10), according to the Gwinnett Relay website. Among participating teams, North Gwinnett High takes the top spot with $113,515.64. Mill Creek High is in third place with $27,155.76 raised. Relay for Life, which is a function of the American Cancer Society, will be held at the Gwinnett Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville on May 10-11, beginning at 7 p.m. It's an organized, overnight fund-raising walk to raise money for cancer patients.
