The city of Norcross is reminding residents of its 24-hour availability services for weather-related emergencies. The Norcross Police and Norcross Public Works & Utilities departments are on call at all hours of the day and night, and emergency Public Works & Utilities crews are on standby in case wintry weather causes any power outages or dangerous road conditions, according to the website. "The City's goal is to ensure the safety of our citizens - please keep travel to a minimum while roads are icy, and stay warm and safe," the post says. If weather conditions cause any concerns or emergencies such as power outages or unsafe roads in city limits, residents should call the Norcross Police Department dispatcher at 770-448-2111. The council decided to wait on the measure for one month.
Aside from the swearing-in ceremonies for the councilmen and police officers, the city council agenda for the January meeting was fairly slim. The consent agenda started with only two items, but one was axed: The Petco 5k Dogs-in-the-Park special use permit item was no longer applicable to Norcross because the organization chose another city for the event. The other item, to approve or deny a contract to start construction on the City Hall Wingo Street Parking Lot Project, was turned into a discussion item that ended up being tabled for one month. Originally passed by the council in October, the parking project proposes to reconstruct city hall's current six-space lot into 18 spaces. The council debated for months on the topic, with …

Norcross' city hall rotunda and police department lobby are getting an update on their looks. In a news release, the city said the municipal building will be renovated to have a more "contemporary feel, with warmer colors and more inviting furniture grouping." Some of the updates will take place during non-office hours through Sept. 30, but the entire project is expected to be finished by the end of November. With the help of the redecorating committee and residents Kathy Nau and Julie Burton, the interior makeover comes after a 10-year gap from the city's last renovation. The existing wood benches in the lobby and rotunda will be upholstered with new fabrics, and new pieces will be added to create more sitting areas. New LED lights will …

The Norcross Police Department released a Nixle alert letting the public know about upcoming renovations that will take place in the lobby areas of the police department and Norcross City Hall. The renovations will start from Thursday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 30. At previous city council and policy work sessions, it was approved to make updates to the paint, carpet, light fixtures and other furnishings in the lobby areas. The theme for the two areas will resemble an old train station, as described in the meetings. The majority of work will be conducted after normal business hours or on the weekends, according to Nixle. The work schedule is: Sept. 20-21: After hours, police department Sept. 22-23: Weekend, city hall and police department…

Business hours are now back to its original schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After adding an hour to its regular schedule for three months, Norcross City Hall has changed its office hours back to the old time. Starting June 1, the hours at city hall will revert back to being 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This includes drive-thru, phone and walk-in hours. The city stated through a Norcross Neighbors newsletter that one exception would be for utility due dates. On utility billing due dates and utility cutoff dates, the city's billing offices would be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Since March, office hours had been extended to 6 p.m. as a pilot program in conjunction with the Clean Air Campaign. The city sent out a statement that the change back to its old schedule is because of a lack of public activity during…

WOW! Wish I could afford a renovation... wait I've spent all my extra money paying the city storm water fee (which was incorrect at first and most likely cost the city cash to resend the statements), also paid the highest utility bill of the year (summer rates), and don't forget property taxes. Poor timing for 'decorating' when some residents are scrambling to keep up perhaps?   more ›
