The Home shop is now one of the offerings of Antique Traditions on South Peachtree Street.
When Taylor Covert dreamed of operating her own specialty shop, she planned and saved for many years to make it happen. Her dream became a reality this January when she opened Home Norcross on Cemetery Street. Business was good and folks loved Covert's sense of style reflected in the offerings of hand crafted home goods of soaps, kitchen towels, glasses formed from beer bottles, and especially the fine wood work of tables and chairs she has brought in from two Alabama artists. "Shoppers always made a purchase whenever they figured out where the shop was," Covert noted, "the location was a little off the main streets and it was hard to get people in." Spaces for this Saturday's extraordinary workshop are still available for knitting and crocheting.
Yarn bombing--a street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted items--is coming to town March 31, and the Nest and Home Norcross are offering free workshops to kickstart the event. Beginners can learn how to yarn bomb through crocheting and knitting at two workshops: One will take place this Saturday, Feb. 18, at Home Norcross, one of downtown's newest retailers, and the Nest at 17 College Street will be hosting the second class March 17. Both classes are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with light refreshments available. Participants in the classes will be completing yarn bomb projects to be displayed during the city's "Spring Into Yarn" event March 31. Whether its on a lamp post, bike rack or utility pole the artist chooses, …
