Two Norcross-area boys basketball teams came out on top in last Saturday's Hilton Invitational, a series of games involving 12 teams from local Georgia schools and numerous states. It was a close game for Norcross High School, who also hosted the fifth-annual event. The Blue Devils defeated Dematha High, from Maryland, with an end score of 68-67, according to HoopSeen.com. Calling it the "best game of the Hilton Invitational," the website gave special notice to senior Brandon Goodwin, who finished with not only 21 points but also the game's winning goal with seven seconds left. Norcross High School basketball is hosting the fifth annual Hilton Invitational this Saturday, and NHS and Greater Atlanta Christian both have players participating in it. Norcross has assembled a 12-team field of strong, long Georgia teams and national powers to participate in the games, according to a press release. Norcross is playing against Dematha High from Maryland on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Greater Atlanta Christian will be playing at 4 p.m. against Olympic High from Charlotte, N.C. The school has assembled a 12-team field of strong, long Georgia teams and national powers to participate in the games, according to a press release. Blue Devils squeak to victory after opposing player scores on his own basket.
The Norcross boys basketball team pulled out an improbable 60-57 win against Charlotte Christian (N.C.) after one of the Knights players scored on his own basket in the final minute of the game. The contest was part of the 4th annual Hilton Invitational, a two-day event pitting Georgia hoops teams against stiff out-of-state competition. The Blue Devils held the lead throughout the first half, but had trouble with the Knights' 2-3 zone in the third period and found themselves down by six heading into the final stanza. On the losing end of a 52-44 score, Norcross head coach Jesse MacMillan called for full-court pressure and the Blue Devils began to cut into the deficit.
