Teacher Robbed During School Field Trip

Inside the Police Reports: A professor at Piedmont College said she and her students had stopped at a McDonald's in the Norcross area to grab a bite to eat when her money bag was stolen.

A teacher said her money bag was taken while she and her students were eating in the Norcross area last week. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the professor at Piedmont College told the officer that they had just come back from Montana and were on their way back to Clayton. The group stopped at the McDonald's at 6165 McDonough Dr. for a quick meal. When they left, a young man helped the professor open the door. In the process, he grabbed her money bag from under her arm and ran toward the road. Since she was in charge of the expenses, the bag contained $300 cash, receipts from the trip and a piece of paper that contained all her internet passwords. The driver, Sharon Mitchell-Golden, of Stone Mountain, has been charged in the accident that killed a Berkmar High teen.

From Lawrenceville Patch Gwinnett County Police say the driver involved in the fatal pedestrian accident on Lawrenceville Highway Wednesday morning has now been charged. In a release, GCPD Cpl. Jake Smith said Sharon Mitchell-Golden, 49, of Stone Mountain, turned herself in to police Thursday. Mitchell-Golden has been charged with second degree vehicular homicide, a misdemeanor, and driving more than 300 feet in the center turn lane.  Mitchell-Golden reportedly struck 17-year-old Dakota M. Waters, a Lawrenceville resident and a Berkmar High student, as he tried to cross Lawrenceville Highway between Hamilton Road and James Road at around 7:30am. Waters was reportedly standing in the center lane as Mitchell-Golden was unable to stop her …

A "possibly suicidal and homicidal" Iowa man is reported missing out of Iowa along with his 5-year-old son.

From Buford Patch Gwinnett County Police are searching for a "possibly suicidal and homicidal" man that fled from police during a Jan. 11 traffic stop in Buford. According to police, a uniform patrol officer stopped a silver 2003 VW Passat bearing Iowa tag 608ZBD at approximately 10:11 a.m. on Friday after the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard and Buford Highway. After stopping the vehicle near the intersection of South Lee Street and Buford Highway, the officer informed the driver of the reason for the stop. The driver presented a license identifying himself as Jeremiah Johnson, 33, of Fort Bragg, N.C. A check of the man's identification in state and national databases indicated Johnson had been …

Inside the Police Reports: A 15-year-old told police that three men knocked on his door Christmas night, pulled a gun and knife on him, and forced him to steal his mother's car, which he wrecked.

A Norcross teen told police that three men knocked on his door Christmas night, pulled a gun and knife on him, and forced him to steal his mother's car, which he wrecked. According to the Norcross Police report, Gwinnett County Police contacted the city department so that Norcross could look into an incident concerning a local woman and her car that had crashed in Lawrenceville. Police found the driver to be her 15-year-old son, who did not have permission to drive it. When officers spoke to the son later that evening, he told them that the incident started at approximately 3 a.m after he heard knocking at the door. Update: Third Suspect in Gwinnett Bank Robbery in Custody

Marcus Rashed Rutledge was wanted in connection to an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo in Lawrenceville in December.

From Lawrenceville Patch Updated Wednesday, Jan. 9, 9:55 a.m. The Gwinnett County Sheriff's website has update Rutledge's entry. He has been charged with armed robbery and is being held without bond. His address is listed as 2800 Herrington Woods Ct, Apt. 4-201, Lawrenceville. According to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's website, the third suspect in an armed robbery at a Lawrenceville bank in December is now in their custody. Marcus Rashed Rutledge was booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center at 5:15pm Tuesday.  Gwinnett County Police believe Rutledge was one of the gunmen who held up the Wells Fargo on Lawrenceville Highway on December 28th. During the holidays, Gwinnett's Electronic and Financial Crimes Unit sees an large increase in the number of victims reporting credit card fraud.

Gwinnett County Police have sent a warning message about the increase of victims reporting credit card fraud. More and more, local victims' credit card information is used across the country and sometimes in foreign countries, according to a news release. Victims living outside of Gwinnett sometimes have their credit card information used by local criminals, too. "These cases can be difficult to investigate due to the various jurisdictions involved and the long distances between them," says the release, adding that fraudulent Internet purchases can be particularly problematic, too. Cell Phone Catches Image of Attempted Burglary Suspect

Police are looking for man who was caught trying to break into a Peachtree Corners apartment by leasing agent who used his camera to video a man trying to burglarize one of the apartments.

A quick thinking apartment leasing agent used his cell phone camera to video a man who was breaking into one of the apartments in the Conservatory Apartments in Peachtree Corners. Now Gwinnett police are searching for him and an apparent accomplice who are suspected of trying to rob one of the apartments on Oct. 28. Gwinnett Police responded to a call at the apartment building located on Peachtree Corners Circle after a resident reported that she had "heard noises which led her to look out into the breezeway of her apartment building," according to police spokesman, Cpl. Gwinnett Police Looking for Suspects in T-Mobile Robbery

Officers were able to obtain security footage of the suspects and incident that occurred at the cell phone store in Peachtree Corners.

Gwinnett County Police are looking for two suspects responsible for an armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Peachtree Corners. Officers responded to the incident, located at 3384 Holcomb Bridge Rd., at about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, according to Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith in a news release. Two suspects went inside the store, ordered the employees into a backroom at gunpoint and forced them to fill up a trash bag with cell phones and cash. They fled out of the back door and were not seen again, according to the release. After the police received security footage of the suspects, the first suspect is described as a black male who has short hair and is 5'9" to 5'10" and 190 to 210 lbs. One Lane Re-Opens on Jimmy Carter and I-85 Ramp After Chemical Spill

Gwinnett Fire, Police and HazMat units have turned over the incident to clean-up company Hepaco.

Update, 2:15 p.m. At around 1:45 p.m., Gwinnett Fire turned over the incident to clean-up company Hepaco on the Jimmy Carter Boulevard ramp form I-85 North. "The clean-up operation is not expected to take very long to complete," said fire spokesman Ct. Tommy Rutledge in a press release. Police and a Department of Transportation HERO unit are still at the scene for traffic control since one lane of the ramp has been re-opened. According the release, the spill of industrial soap was less than 30 gallons and appears to be accidental. It is believed it was erupted from a cap on the tanker, but it's unknown as to how it began leaking. The soap's main ingredient is Naptha, a flammable substance that firefighters were able to quickly identify. …
