Hannah Middlebrooks and Allie Cummins have been named the Norcross school's top students.
Gwinnett Public Schools recently released the names of the valedictorian and salutatorian from the Gwinnett Online Campus. The title of valedictorian is typically given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA. Photos of the honorees are included with the story. Valedictorian: Hannah Middlebrooks, daughter of Ron and Robin Middlebrooks, plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall with an undecided major. Her career goals is to become a pediatrician, but is undecided. She is the recipient of a $500 Maxxis Organization scholarship. She's also the secretary of the French National Honor Society. Gwinnett County parents interested in the online learning option for their students have additional time this spring to register for the 2013-2014 school year. A spring registration period for Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC), located in Norcross, began Monday, April 15, and closes on May 3. Gwinnett’s full-time, online learning option will expand next school year and serve students in grades 4-12. Because Gwinnett Online Campus is a system charter school, enrollment is open to all current school-aged children who reside in Gwinnett County. The school opened in 2011 as a full-time high school (Grades 9-12) and extended its reach in 2012 to offer middle school students (Grades 6-8) the opportunity to attend the online school full time. …

Gwinnett County middle school students scored well in the recent state writing test, with Norcross schools scoring among the highest. More than 12,600 eighth-grade students took the test in January 2013, and Gwinnett County Public Schools released overall results on March 25. The district’s average passing rate (met or exceeds standard) remains high and increased one percentage point this year, from 93 percent in 2012 to 94 percent now, according to officials. Statewide, 82 percent met or exceeded the standard. The Gwinnett Online Campus was among the highest performing schools in the district, with 97 percent of students meeting or exceeding standards. More than 1,000 students will participate in the fair Friday, Feb. 22.
More than 1,000 students from 63 schools will participate Friday in the 35th annual Gwinnett County Regional Science and Engineering Fair. It is the county's largest regional event for science learning, and students from public schools, charter schools, private schools and home schools are among those participating. Local students from the Meadowcreek and Norcross High clusters, in addition to the Gwinnett Online Campus, are in the competition. In addition to accepting new students for the second semester in January, the Gwinnett Online Campus also is holding informational meetings for new students interested in the 2013-2014 school year. For the spring 2013 semester, the Norcross-area school will be accepting current sixth through 12th graders, but next school year, the online campus is adding fourth and fifth graders to the student body. The Gwinnett Online Campus in the Norcross area held its registration days last week where students could come in person to get acquainted with the school. Two full days of orientation are planned where students will meet their teachers, learn how to access courses, navigate the learning management system, and participate in team-building activities. Along with their parents, students from grades six through 12 attended the registration days. The charter school, which started last year as a high school under Gwinnett County Public Schools, just began enrolling middle schoolers this year, starting with 78 students at the sixth- through eighth-grade levels. Gwinnett County Public Schools is offering a summer registration period for its new online charter school, Gwinnett Online Campus. According to a press release, this registration period will allow any student who missed the previous registration deadline an opportunity to enroll for the fall. Gwinnett County Public Schools announced today that it has extended the registration period for the new online campus, which will open its virtual classes for the first time in August. Additional registration will take place from June 20 to July 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students must register in person at the campus at 2595 Beaver Ruin Road in Norcross.
