A Gwinnett woman who was pulled over for drunk driving seemed more concerned about finding her phone than being arrested. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the 28-year-old woman driving a 1995 Chevy Tahoe was pulled over at the intersection of Live Oak Parkway and Thompson Parkway in the Norcross area after police observed her failing to maintain her lane. When the officer asked her why she was driving in two lanes, she said that she had dropped her phone. She continued to look for her phone and was hesitant to look at the officer as they continued to talk. Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend, then shot himself in the head after an apparent argument early Sunday morning in unincorporated Snellville. The woman, who was stabbed in the back, survived the attack, but the man died, according to a media alert emailed by Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera. “The death of the male is being investigated as a suicide. The female is not a suspect in his death,” Pihera reported. Joseph Tyler Sivonda, a suspected serial rapist, was taken into custody Thursday after a week-long search.
After a week-long search, Gwinnett County Police have apprehended a suspected serial rapist from the Norcross area. Joseph Tyler Sivonda, 23, was taken into custody Thursday morning (May 9), according to a news release from police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. "A team of Gwinnett County Police Department detectives, U.S. Marshals, and deputies from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit located Sivonda at an apartment in Duluth," continued Smith. He was staying with Tiffany Martin, 30, who also was arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon. Gwinnett Police attempted to arrest Joseph Sivonda, 23, Thursday at his Norcross apartment behind Beaver Ridge Elementary.
After an arrest attempt was made Thursday (May 2), a suspected serial rapist from the Norcross area is still at large. Police say 23-year-old Joseph Tyler Sivonda was not at his home that morning when the Gwinnett County SWAT team went to Bradford Gwinnett Apartments, located at 100 Castor Dr. behind Beaver Ridge Elementary. He is wanted on two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated sodomy, and two counts of rape, according to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. A Norcross man and woman were arrested on drug charges after he admitted he sold marijuana when police questioned him about another incident. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, officers responded to an aggravated domestic disturbance late last month at a home on the 1300 block of Gale Drive in unincorporated Norcross. Thanh Tuan Lee Vu, 20, told police he had sold marijuana to the victim in the incident on at least two occasions, with one of those times being earlier that day. The information prompted police to request a search warrant. A customer at a Frontera in the Norcross area left in a rush after paying only $20 of his $63 tab.
A server at a local Frontera told police that a customer dined and drank at the restaurant one evening and left after paying only a portion of the bill. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the customer came into the 1295 Indian Trail Rd. establishment around 5 p.m. on a recent Thursday. Over the course of an hour and 45 minutes, he ordered four glasses of Patron at $14.99 each, totaling his bill to $63.56. The server, 23, told police that while he was at the other side of the restaurant, he saw the customer get up from his table, walk outside to the patio and jump the fence. The Norcross Police Department, the FBI and Gwinnett County Police are seeking information on a man who was arrested and charged with sex crimes earlier this month. Syed Hasan Abidi, 31, of Atlanta, was arrested by Norcross Police on March 4 on charges of rape and aggravated sodomy. Later in the month, an investigation by the Gwinnett County Police Department Vice Unit determined that Abidi had been advertising opportunities for teenage girls to make money on various websites including craigslist.com and backpage.com, according to a news release Gwinnett spokesman Cpl.
