Norcross, Gwinnett Leaders Strengthen Business Ties on Chamber Trip to Europe

The December 2012 trip to Germany and France was to enrich ties with companies and open new ones.

A delegation of Norcross and Gwinnett business and government leaders targeted several European businesses in a December 2012 trip to Europe. Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson, Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette and Gwinnett District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard were among those who traveled to France and Germany for six days to strengthen business ties with companies there. DUI Charge Against Masino Dropped

The firing of the arresting Suwanee officer means the Gwinnett solicitor does not have enough evidence to proceed with the case.

A Gwinnett prosecutor has decided to drop the driving under the influence charge against Gwinnett Chamber VP Nick Masino, due to lack of evidence. The case came apart because of the dismissal of the arresting Suwanee police officer. Masino, a Suwanee resident and former mayor of Suwanee, was arrested last August on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road after his vehicle was observed swerving between lanes. Initially, an off-duty officer spotted Masino's vehicle swerving on I-85, and phoned Suwanee police. Masino did not finish a field sobriety test and subsequently was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center. He also was charged with texting while driving and improper lane change. Spotted by an officer from Gwinnett County and then stopped by City of Suwanee Police. What more evidence do you need? A young family member was sited driving in a well lighted parking light and had yet turned her lights on and was stopped in Duluth. Chamber Hosts Entrepreneur Contest

Get a $2500 cash prize and development tools for the best business plan in the second annual Amazing Entrepreneur Contest.

The Gwinentt Chamber announced a competition that will appeal to creative types and small businesses whizzes, especially in this economic climate: a small business plan contest.  The winner of the 2012 Amazing Entrepreneur Contest will receive a package that could help make the plan a reality, including $2500 cash, a trip to Sage Software’s conference in D.C., one year of participation in the Gwinnett Business Institute, a year Chamber membership, consultation with attorney from Arnall Golden Gregory, and more. Hyundai Construction Opens Doors in Norcross

The ribbon cutting marks the opening of a $10 million HQ, which is projected to bring 100 jobs to the City of Norcross.

At a festive, well-attended ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday marked the opening the headquarters of Hyundai Construction Equipment of the Americas, Inc. in the City of Norcross. The new $10 million facility will bring an estimated 100 jobs to the area, according to the company.  “We’ve learned that Georgia is a very business friendly environment,” said Hyundai Constructions Equipment Americas, Inc. President John Lim before official opening. Chamber Hosting Expo, Job Fair Tomorrow

Attendance is free, but registration is required.

The 2011 Gwinnett Chamber Business Expo & Job Fair offers opportunities for more than 200 exhibitors to generate new business and job seekers to approach companies with openings on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Convention Center at Gwinnett Center from noon to 5 p.m.  The Business EXPO and Job Fair follows a chamber General Membership Luncheon featuring Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens as the speaker. A new attraction at the Expo this year is a silent auction presented by Delta Community Credit Union. The silent auction requires potential bidders to scavenge for ‘credits’ to use to bid on items by visiting booths. No money is required to participate in the silent auction. Updated: Gwinnett Chamber Exec Arrested on DUI Charge

Updated 9:54 a.m., Aug. 4, 2011 Nick Masino, an executive with the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a former mayor of Suwanee, was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on Wednesday shortly after 10 p.m. on charges that include Driving Under the Influence. Masino, of a Yosemite Court address in Suwanee, was released on bond just before midnight Wednesday, jail records show. His vehicle initially was spotted swerving on I-85 South near the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road exit by an off-duty Suwanee Police officer, who radioed dispatch, police records show. Masino could not be reached for comment Thursday. The arrest was made at the Zaxby's on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road at Smithtown Road after Masino's vehicle turned in there. The vehicle …

Gov. Deal, Technology Companies Push Jobs in Georgia

Members of the Gwinnett Chamber were on hand for a pep rally on the state's technology industry strengths.

Gov. Nathan Deal visited one of Alpharetta's high-tech companies along with members of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) to publicize the strength of the state's technology industries. Jim Maran, President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, and Nick Masino, Vice President of Economic Development at the Chamber, were both on hand for the talk.  More than 13,000 technology companies employ more than 250,000 Georgians, Deal said. McKesson, one of those companies, was the site for TAG's efforts today to push that technology is "Where Georgia Leads," the buzzwords for the initiative. Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development is seeking input on the future direction of community and economic development in the county. The chamber announced Friday (June 24) it is about to enter the second strategic planning phase of the Partnership Gwinnett community and economic development initiative, and the survey is a crucial part of the process. With more than 200 relocations and expansions yielding more than 10,000 jobs since the launch of the first phase in 2007, the goal of “Partnership Gwinnett 2.0” is to take the success of the past five years to the next level. Medical Lab to Bring 100 Jobs, $12 Million to Norcross

QualTex Laboratories tests blood and plasma samples from around the world in its state-of-the-art facilities.

A ribbon was snipped yesterday to mark the opening of a global blood and plasma testing lab in Norcross. The second location of QualTex laboratories will bring 100 skilled medical and management jobs and $12 million in investment over a five-year period, according to the company. “It took a village to raise this building, I can tell you,” said Dr. Norman D.
