Eric Clapton to Rock the Stage at Gwinnett Arena

Tickets for the March 27th concert go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

From Duluth Patch Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, for a performance by rock legend Eric Clapton at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The March 27 concert in Duluth is part of Clapton’s 2013 tour, according to an announcement issued by Gwinnett Center. Clapton has assembled a band for the 2013 U.S. tour consisting of long-time touring partners: Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Steve Jordan (drums), Chris Stainton (piano and keyboards), and Willie Weeks (bass), along with newcomers Paul Carrack (organ and keyboards) and Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar). Michelle John and Sharon White will join the touring band again as backing vocalists. The tour will also feature The Wallflowers as special guests. Tickets will be available for purchase…

Peachtree Corners Firm May Build Gwinnett Center Hotel

Nilhan Hospitality's bid to build a $57 million hotel at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth now awaiting OK by Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners.

Gwinnett County is about to get a real economic boost if a developer's proposal to build a multimillion dollar hotel is approved by Gwinnett County's Board of Commissioners. Nilhan Hospitality, located in Peachtree Corners, was one of four companies that submitted bids for a cenvention center hotel. On Wednesday the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau's board of directors selected the Norcross firm to build a $57 million Marriott Hotel which will connect to the Gwinnett Center. "Nilham Hospitality were actually planning on building a Marriott Hotel nearby," said Lisa Anders, GCVB's executive director, "and had already been approved for a Marriott franchise." GCVB Extends Hotel RFP Deadline

The tourism organization now sets Jan. 20 as the deadline for parties interested in building and operating a "headquarters hotel."

Gwinnett tourism officials have set a later deadline for responses to the recent Request For Proposals for a so-called headquarters hotel. The deadline is now Jan. 20, one week later than original. The RFP was issued Dec. 9. Lisa Anders, executive director of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau, noted that the deadline was extended primarily because of the holidays. She said there have been no completed applications, but a lot of serious inquiries. GCVB officials anticipate receiving some official proposals by the new deadline. The GCVB feels that the Gwinnett Center/Arena complex needs an attached, large-scale hotel to attract more business. Gwinnett Center Issues Hotel RFP

Proposals due in January for 'headquarters hotel' near arena complex in Duluth.

Gwinnett Center officials formally have issued the Request For Proposals (RFP) for a "headquarters hotel" that would be part of the Duluth center/arena complex. Deadline for interested developers is Friday, Jan. 13. The RFP says that an "upper-upscale" facility of at least 300 rooms is desired, as well as meeting and ballroom space and self-contained parking. Also, the hotel should be capable of expanding by at least 100 rooms. Executive Director Lisa Anders of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau told Patch last month that this type of hotel has been a desire of tourism officials for some time. UGA Alumni Career Fair Today at Gwinnett Center

The Career Fair is only for UGA grads with all levels of experience and academic backgrounds.

UGA alumni looking for jobs may want to put on their interview suits and update their resumes. The University of Georgia Career Center is hosting its sixth annual UGA Alumni Career Fair Tuesday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Duluth. The Career Fair, the largest career networking opportunity for alumni in the metro Atlanta area, occurs at the Gwinnett Center Ballroom, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway. This event is only open to UGA alumni and is free to attend. Recommended attire is business professional.  Last year more than 600 alumni participated.
