Atlanta Braves Get Rain-Shortened Win at Coolray

Record Coolray Field crowd of 10,568 sees parent club survive Future Stars, 4-3. Rain halts play in seventh.

Updated April 4 "We're not pretty," Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of his team before Tuesday's exhibition game at Coolray Field. "We're like hyenas -- they hunt in packs." Not pretty would describe Atlanta's 4-3 victory Tuesday. The parent club, which opens its season Thursday in New York, had to come from behind to lead the Future Stars team of minor leaguers. Then the rain that had been falling intensified in the seventh, forcing play to be called. A record Coolray Field crowd of 10,568 watched the game, which included legendary former Manager Bobby Cox leading the Future Stars. A double by All Star Brian McCann, a Duluth High grad, scored pinch-runner Luis Durango to put Atlanta ahead 4-3 in the fifth. McCann struck out in …

Knights Rain on G-Braves Parade

Team falls short of playoffs and season finale is rained out.

It was supposed to be a beautiful Labor Day at the ol' ball park. The game was switched from a night game to a day game. But mother nature had other plans. The Gwinnett Braves came into Monday's finale at home just one game out of the playoffs. And needing a Syracuse victory over Lehigh Valley to force a one-game playoff game with the Iron Pigs, Gwinnett had to wait almost two hours before finding out Lehigh had defeated Syracuse 4-1 in a rain shortened game knocking the Braves out of the playoffs. It wasn't official until the bottom of the first inning after Lehigh and Syracuse waited 45 minutes. Then the Braves had their own rain problems and after a 1-hour and 59-minutes delay, and the Braves trailing 2-1 got hit by another rain fall …

Get Out: Make a Plan for the Weekend

The event of the year... and the event for no reason.

There's plenty to keep you going this weekend around Norcross... Just DON'T go down 141 to get there. 93rd PGA Championship The event of the weekend and maybe the year for Gwinnett is the 93rd PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club. As a member of the gallery 10 years ago when David Toms battled Phil Mickelson, I can safely say that the final round of this event has a chance to be the most exciting, dramatic sporting event you'll see all year. If you can and you care, go. No Reason Block Party One of the great things about Duluth is that they'll throw a party for no reason at all. Don't believe me? Show up at the Duluth Town Green Thursday around 5:00 p.m. and bask in the glory that is the No Reason Block Party. Glory specified - live …
