Norcross Mayor Appointed to GCVB Board of Directors

The Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau named Bucky Johnson to the board for 2013.

New positions have been appointed to the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau's Board of Directors for 2013, and Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson is filling one of them. According to a press release, Johnson was appointed to the GCVB Board of Directors to represent the Gwinnett Municipal Association. Johnson, who's been the mayor of Norcross since 2008, serves on many boards in the county and state, including the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Georgia Municipal Association, and the Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board. He was named Gwinnett's Man of the Year by Gwinnett Magazine, and became the chair of the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association last July. Four 'Established' Developers Interested in GCVB Hotel Project

Officials have begun going over those interested in developing a facility adjacent to the Gwinnett Center/Arena.

Gwinnett tourism officials have begun sifting through the proposals to build a so-called headquarters hotel as part of the Gwinnett Center/Arena complex. Preston Williams, CEO of the Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Bureau, characterized the interested companies as "established" in a news release, and that indeed appears to be the case. Those tossing their hats into the ring are: According to Internet research, Welty has offices in Ohio and North Carolina. Its projects include the Time Warner Cable facility in Ohio and Goodyear Tire & Rubber headquarters in Ohio. Art Fest Named Best Event in Gwinnett

The Convention and Visitor’s Bureau tips its hat to the local Fest, collects heaps of supplies for the Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership.

The Gwinnett County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau holds an annual Tourism Awards to highlight the best of the best in Gwinnett County, and the Norcross Art Fest was recognized as the top event this year. “This juried fine art festival, now showcasing over 170 artists, does a wonderful job of improving Gwinnett’s appeal as a leisure destination, as well as being a arts and cultural showcase,” the Bureau said in an announcement of the 2011 winners.  The awards were announced at the Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 2, which also included a Holiday Book Drive to benefit Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership. Restaurant Week to Bring Exotic Tastes for Less

Sept. 19 to 22 specially priced menus available at Gwinnett eateries.

Like a good tikka masala? How about a touch of tapas? You are in luck Sept. 19 through 22, since its Gwinnett International Restaurant Week. Twenty restaurants across the county will be offering special three-course meals for $21.21 plus tax and gratuity.   “The large majority of our restaurants are independent restaurants, and we’ve worked very hard this year to expand the ethnic opportunities to diners,” said Lisa Anders, deputy director of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau, which organizes the event, in a release.
