Fowler YMCA invites the community to its annual fundraiser Feb. 2.
For 15 years, residents of Peachtree Corners and the surrounding communities have come together for a day filled with fellowship and fitness at Robert Fowler YMCA’s annual Rock ‘N Roll-A-Thon. The spirit and tradition continues on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m.-.4.p.m. as neighbors cycle, swim, dance and shop – all for a GREAT Cause! With a variety of activities to choose from - cycling in the gym, swimming in our pool, dancing to Latin tunes, or shopping the Silent Auction, there is something for everyone! The event will take place Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the studio gallery in Historic Downtown Norcross.
Vargas & Harbin Studio Gallery in Historic Downtown Norcross is hosting a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy victims this Wednesday. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the gallery will be raffling many pieces of artwork and photography from local artists. Downtown restaurants such as Mojitos, 45 South Cafe and Iron Horse Tavern are donating appetizers for the fundraising event. A $5 donation is suggestion per raffle ticket, and of course, buying more raffle tickets will increase one's chances to win a piece of artwork. Gwinnett Artworks Director Sally Corbett has helped organize the event, as she is leaving Atlanta to return to the New York area to be closer to family. The Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership (NCSP) is holding its annual fundraiser on Friday to support area public school teachers, students and educational activities. The city of Norcross is hosting a fundraising event for Aimee Copeland called Art for Aimee on Sept. 29, and Copeland herself will be attending. Copeland is the 24-year-old Snellville resident who lost her left leg, right foot and both hands as a result of a rare, flesh-eating bacteria contracted following a zip-line accident. She was diagnosed with the condition in May, and she came home last weekend from her long stay in the hospital. Norcross' "Art for Aimee" aims to assist the Copeland family with medical costs. Hosted at the Norcross Welcome Center and Museum, the fundraiser will celebrate the young woman's passion for life by showcasing the artwork from Gwinnett artist Vicki A. Johnson. A Close Look is inviting the community to join them in walking for multiple sclerosis research.
Local Norcross business A Closer Look has invited members of the community to walk with them Saturday, April 14, in the 22nd annual Walk MS: Georgia 2012 to raise funds for multiple sclerosis. Run by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the walk aims to financially assist MS research of understanding the disease, developing treatment and finding new rehabilitation methods, according to a press release. For those unfamiliar with MS, it's a disease of the central nervous system that is unpredictable and oftentimes disabling. Symptoms can lead to numbness, blindness and paralysis. An employee of a Peachtree Corners business is jogging to and from work everyday to help raise funds for new playground equipment at Stripling Elementary.
Ted Pappas is running—figuratively and literally—a not-so-ordinary fundraiser for Stripling Elementary School. He's jogging to and from work, every single day. Help Ted Run! is a fundraiser for Stripling's Project Playground, an initiative to purchase new playground and P.E. equipment for the elementary school. Looking for something to do this weekend? The Norcross Business Association is sponsoring the Art, Wine & Jazz event this Saturday to benefit the Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership. Held in Peachtree Corners' DE Fine Art gallery, the business-casual event will have artwork, drinks, food and dancing. The Traveling Vineyard will be having a professional wine tasting, too. "We just thought it would be a fun, one-of-a-kind event and a something great to do for the community," said Ranae Heaven, co-founder of NCSP. The elementary school more than doubled its donation goal for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In efforts to helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Norcross Elementary School held a fundraiser where it raised $3,120.63, doubling its donation goal. The fundraiser, Pennies for Patients, lasted three weeks and involved not only the students, but the parents and teachers. Their original goal was to raise $1,500. "As the staff, we were just overwhelmed with their generosity," said Assistant Principal Mikka Solomon, who coordinated the project. The project was simple enough: Students were given a Pennies for Patients box that they would put money in and then bring it back to school to add to their classrooms' collection buckets. This Thursday, Dec. 8, the Gwinnett Village Community Alliance will hold a fundraiser at the Vargas & Harbin Studio Gallery downtown. Tickets can be purchased for $25 at the door or $20 through the Gwinnett Village Community Alliance website. Wine and cheese will be served in the gallery space at 27 S.
