Illegal Fireworks Cause Fire at Gwinnett Businesses

Two Lawrenceville businesses were damaged by fire and smoke Thursday morning.

Gwinnett County Fire Investigators believe illegal fireworks caused damage to two business in Lawrenceville.  Crews were called to World Finance and Las Canas at a shopping plaza at 1956 Duluth Hwy. at 4:35 a.m. Thursday. When they got there, they found smoke and fire coming from the center of the roof. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire on the roof. The roof over World Finance suffered minor damage. That business also had minor damage inside due to fire and water used as firefighters fought the flames. Las Canas also suffered minor damage and the front glass door was broken as firefighters forced it open. No injuries were reported. Investigators say the illegal bottle rocket fireworks landed on the roof of the building, …

Historic downtown Norcross had games, food, music and more at its annual Pre-Fourth of July Celebration.

Brunswick Stew Making Brunswick Stew is a summer tradition in the South when the tomatoes are ripe and the corn is sweet. Using all the leftover smoked meat from the many “smoking and grilling” dinners is perfect for this stew. The freezer usually has several bags of pulled pork, smoked chicken and always some kind of smoked beef. The trick to good homemade Brunswick Stew is the barbecue sauce that is used to season the sauce. Homemade is the best and it will distinguish the stew as your own. We like to prepare the tomatoes and the barbecue sauce the day before. This allows the sauce to blend the flavors of the spices and it gives the tomatoes extra time to release their juices. Celebrate the Fourth of July With Norcross

The city's annual pre-Independence Day celebrations take place July 3.

Want to celebrate Independence Day early this year? While the citizens of Norcross are used to the tradition by now, many may still be unfamiliar with the city's Annual Pre-Fourth of July Celebration on July 3 at Lillian Webb Park.  Even though it takes place before the actual holiday, the celebration still goes all out with its festivities. Expect the usual live music and fireworks, but there will be tons of food and family activities, too, all handled by the Norcross Business Association. Be sure to check out the inflatable slide and a moonwalk, pony rides, face painting, edible sand art by Sandy Candy and more for the kids, and there also will be caricature drawings and a dunk tank set up for everyone's entertainment. Just for fun, a look at one of Stone Mountain Park's busiest weekends, The Fantastic Fourth Celebration, by the numbers.

Just for fun, Stone Mountain Patch asked the park to give us an overview, by the numbers, of what a typical Fourth of July weekend is like at the rock.
