Everytime they "improve" this interchange it's obvious they should have given it more thought. Can't wait to see this boondoggle in action. I will be ready to eat my hat if it really works.....but that is up for debate. Meanwhile, it's gonna be a real mess in this neck of the woods for a long time!   more ›

Video: Diverging Diamond Interchange at Jimmy Carter Bridge

The Gwinnett Village CID posted a simulation video of what the interchange at I-85 is expected to look like.

Wondering what the proposed diverging diamond interchange at the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and I-85 bridge will look like? The Gwinnett Village CID has posted a simulation video of the intersection to give people a sneak peek. Check it out above. The diverging diamond interchange is expected to improve the traffic congestion in the area. The basic idea is to cross traffic over to the “opposite” side of the road, eliminating hard lefts and easing traffic congestion at these notoriously slow intersections. Diamond Interchange in the Works on Jimmy Carter and 85

Plans are afoot for a new type of interchange that would cut out the hard left turns, hopefully easing traffic in the area.

Traffic congestion is synonymous with automobile travel in Atlanta, and that includes plenty of cursing at Interstate 85 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. But a quick fix in the form of a diverging diamond interchange is on the way in 2011 that could mitigate the backed up traffic that can at times seem to stretch forever. "The DDI design allows us to give some much needed congestion relief at this busy interchange every day," said Chuck Warbington, executive director of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District. "Our goal is to provide a greater level of connectivity to those traveling to or through the Gwinnett Village area and I think this project will aid in accomplishing that." DDI's are relatively new concepts in the United …
