Share Your Memories of Larry Munson

The legendary voice of Georgia football died Sunday night at his home in Athens at the age of 89.

Larry Munson, whose legendary calls of University of Georgia football success echoed in the ears of the Bulldog Nation for four decades, died Sunday night in Athens. Munson, 89, died at his home with complications from pneumonia, his son Michael told the University of Georgia athletics website. Funeral arrangements for Munson had not been determined as of Sunday night. The beloved broadcaster was the “Voice of the Bulldogs” from 1966 to 2008, during which his passion for the Red-and-Black created some of the more memorable radio calls in college football history. Some of the most memorable: “Run Lindsay … Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott” (1980 vs. Florida); “Again you guys, hunker down!” and  “Look at the sugar falling out of …

Meadowcreek, community loses a caring principal who aimed high. Services will be held Friday.

When I was a young student at Berkmar High School, my theatre class decided to put on a lunchtime show. The idea was a little ambitious: Advertise the show in the cafeteria all week, and then get administrators to allow the students to come into the theatre with their lunches.  I had to approach then-Assistant Principal Bob Jackson to request a relaxing of the rules. I remember our conversation was warm and positive. The show was a go. Only one thing: it wasn’t a full-scale production—just an experiment in our minds—so we didn’t take those important steps of, say, building a set or, in some cases, memorizing our lines. And the worst part? Mr. Jackson showed up, smiling the whole time, despite our ridiculous follies. I thought that said a …

Local Playwrights Featured at Lionheart

Onion Man Productions announces its third annual production of nine short plays by local playwrights, coming to the Lionheart Theatre June 2 through 12.

James Beck is more than familiar with theatre and how to bring it to the community. And that is just what he’ll do this coming June 2 through 12 as his company, Onion Man Productions, presents the third annual showing of first-run 10 minute plays.  This new production called "Life is Short," presents nine original plays by local playwrights that remind us that life is good. All set in some type of funeral setting, these plays are for the most part humorous and often thought provoking. Each play was written specifically for this project. One of the playwrights, Raymond Fast, said that when learning of the theme he was intrigued by the challenge. Writing a short and concise play isn’t an easy thing to do. Fast’s play, "Keyless Entry," …
