Mayor, Police Chief Visit Stripling for Read Across America

Mayor Bucky Johnson and Police Chief Warren Summers visited the elementary school to read Dr. Seuss books to classes.

Read Across America was last Friday, March 2, and Stripling Elementary had the priviledge of Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson and Police Chief Warren Summers reading books to three classrooms. "It's just a wonderful way for [the students] to realize that reading is important to adults," said Mary Beth Duty, the media specialist at Stripling who organized the school's event. For the holiday that also doubles as Dr. Seuss' birthday, Johnson and Summers were among the 25 volunteers at Stripling who visited classrooms and encouraged reading to kids. Summers read "Cat in the Hat" to a second grade class and also brought some kids' activities from the police department, while the mayor read "Horton Hears a Hoo" to two fourth-grade classrooms. "…

See Ted Run for School Equipment

An employee of a Peachtree Corners business is jogging to and from work everyday to help raise funds for new playground equipment at Stripling Elementary.

Ted Pappas is running—figuratively and literally—a not-so-ordinary fundraiser for Stripling Elementary School. He's jogging to and from work, every single day. Help Ted Run! is a fundraiser for Stripling's Project Playground, an initiative to purchase new playground and P.E. equipment for the elementary school. Ted Pappas, the vice president of professional services at Corus360 in Peachtree Corners, started the project Feb. 1. The project is sponsored by Corus360 Cares, the company's team for fundraisers and helping the community, and The GA Compassion Project. “He wanted to do something extraordinary, and he’s getting the community to focus on a need,” said Stripling Principal Priscilla McHam.
