Lionheart Theatre's 'The Kindness of Strangers' This Weekend

Lionheart Theatre gives a night of Tennessee Williams-inspired shorts.

Lionheart Theatre Company presents a 100th birthday tribute to Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist Tennessee Williams. Opening this weekend, "The Kindness of Strangers" includes seven short plays written in Williams’ style by five Atlanta playwrights. The play runs at Lionheart Jan. 6-8, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday’s show at 2 p.m. All seats are $10. “It’s a privilege to honor this steamy Southern writer on our stage,” said Tanya Caldwell, Lionheart’s producing artistic director. “'The Kindness of Strangers' brings together writers, directors, actors and audiences who treasure Tennessee’s brilliant legacy.” The prolific Williams is one of America’s greatest playwrights. Lionheart Theatre Presents In Lieu of Flowers

The Lionheart Theatre in Historic Norcross premiers the original production In Lieu of Flowers by Atlanta playwright Daphne Mintz, directed by Tanya Caldwell. Performances now through Feb. 13.

There is a mystery brewing at Lionheart Theatre that can only be solved by seeing this premier production of "In Lieu of Flowers." Atlanta playwright Daphne Mintz has created a work that leads us through a tale of love and self-discovery. The play opens with the death of a beloved father, uncle and friend. We watch as the characters unravel some mysteries about themselves and other. Director Tanya Caldwell said enjoyed directing this work. “There are two different stories going on," she said. "It’s a tale of comfortable love versus desperate love.” As one of the characters puts it, “Desperate love makes you feel sexy and alive, but not safe and taken care of.” Caldwell brought this story to the stage with blocking that provided powerful …

Winter Play Fit for the Whole Family

Lionheart Theatre presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this Thursday through Sunday. A powerful White Witch and menagerie of creatures are set to captivate audiences.

C.S. Lewis' ultimate story of redemption is a fantastical allegory, but one that even younger kids can enjoy. The Lionheart production compels the audience to follow along with them.  In this production, which will run for four days only, we watch the mid-winter story unfold as four British children find themselves in a fantasy land. An artfully worked backdrop portraying the winter scene carries the play visually with other props at a bare minimum. The scenery hosts a whole menagerie of animals from beavers to wolves, rabbits to leopards and less common fawns and unicorns.  This tale is carried along by the principal actors.
