Everytime they "improve" this interchange it's obvious they should have given it more thought. Can't wait to see this boondoggle in action. I will be ready to eat my hat if it really works.....but that is up for debate. Meanwhile, it's gonna be a real mess in this neck of the woods for a long time!   more ›

CID to Hold Open House on Continuous Flow Intersection Plans for Jimmy Carter, Buford Highway

The open house will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett Village CID offices on Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

How would you improve the congestion at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Buford Highway intersection in Norcross? Hold that thought, because the Gwinnett Village CID is hosting an open house Thursday for locals to give input and learn about its planned improvements for the intersection. Currently, the community improvement district is leaning toward building a Continuous Flow Intersection at Jimmy Carter and Buford. It would be an at-grade intersection as opposed to grade separation, and left turns would happen in advance of the intersection, allowing for multiple movements to take place simultaneously. The CFI also would eliminate a signal phase at the intersection, which would increase efficiency and capacity, according to the CID. "This …

CID Releases New Video

The video looks at the work of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District in the last five years.

Some Norcross residents may wonder what exactly a community improvement district is--and what the Gwinnett Village CID is, in particular.  The Gwinnett Village CID, which includes Norcross, has created a six-minute video that outlines its goals and accomplishments in infrastructure, security and landscaping.  The video features commentary from Gwinnett Village CID Director Chuck Warbington, Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson, officials in transportation at the Atlanta Regional Commission and more.  The CID has been in operation since 2006, so the video loosely marks five years of operation in the area. Local CIDs' transportation survey shows results that they describe as "against conventional wisdom."

Chuck Warbington, Executive Director of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District, describes the findings as against conventional wisdom. "It is probably that there are blue collar workers who just can't afford another tax," said Warbington, who also pointed to the mood in Washington as a factor in this year's findings. According to the survey, which was released today, 47 percent of males and 44 percent of Republicans would support a regional sales tax referendum for transportation in 2012, as …
