Proposed Peachtree Corners City Borders Draw Criticism

H.B. 396 sets city limits that expand eastward to Buford Highway, which some call “aggressive.”

The legislation presented earlier this year for the unincorporated Gwinnett County area known as Peachtree Corners has moved through the House and reached the Senate for review. When the legislation was presented before the General Assembly as H.B. 396, it contained provisions for customary items such as the election process for a mayor and city council and qualifications for office, among many items. Norcross Officials Eye Proposed Peachtree Corners Map

Some elected officials said they were surprised by the boundaries drawn in the recent map.

This week, Norcross officials took a look at the proposed boundaries for the City Lite status sought by neighboring community Peachtree Corners—and not all of them liked what they saw. At issue are the two area boarding Norcross to the east and west. “The map is consistent with what we’ve described over the years,” said Mike Mason, President of the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association. “If you put the overlay district on top of Paul Duke's Peachtree Corners, you get the new map,” he said. Mason said in a recent phone conversation that the Peachtree Corners Overlay District, approved in 2007, goes all the way to Buford Hwy. But the official map (the second map pictured), approved on March 27, 2007 shows the Overlay District boundaries…
