Blue Devils State Finals Stats: NHS vs. Lovejoy

The following is a recap of the football game, written by Norcross High assistant football coach Corey Richardson. Last Saturday night, your Norcross Blue Devils (15-0, 8-0 Region) capped off a very special season by beating the Lovejoy Wildcats 21-14. When the bell rings Monday morning at Norcross High School, it won't be a typical start of the week - this day will be special. The Blue Devils now, for the first time since 1957 when the school began playing football, can claim the title "state champion." But it's not just the students, teachers and parents that are celebrating - the entire Norcross community joins in. We'd like to hear from you on what this first state championship means to you. Norcross Wins Class AAAAAA Football Title

The Blue Devils defeated Lovejoy High 21-14 in the state championship game.

After an undefeated 14-win season, the Blue Devils added one more win Saturday at the Georgia Dome. Norcross High defeated Lovejoy High 21-14 in the state football championship,  earning the Class AAAAAA title for the first time. The game had a slow start with nothing on the board until Lovejoy scored a 60-yard touchdown in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead. Norcross kicked a field goal in the third quarter, but the Wildcats answered with another touchdown minutes later, taking a 14-3 lead. Norcross' winning points came in the fourth quarter with Alvin Kamara's 61-yard touchdown reception, which was followed by another touchdown by the running back. Norcross Championship Game Tonight

Come out to the the 8:30 p.m. game at the Dome, or watch the Blue Devils live online or on television.

Today's the big day for Big Blue. After an undefeated season of 14 wins, Norcross High is headed to the Georgia Dome this evening for the state championships against Lovejoy High. It's the first time either team has made it to the finals. Maxwell Ratings believe Norcross High will win the Class AAAAAA title by 9 points. The game starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $20 at the door. Before the game, though, a huge sendoff party is planned at the school to give support for the team. Come out either Spalding Drive, Medlock Bridge or Peachtree Industrial Boulevard around 4:30 p.m. to cheer on and wave at the team buses, which will leave the Norcross High Field House at 5:15 p.m. Not able to make it out to the game? Blue Devils Championship Tickets on Sale at NHS

Saturday's game at the Georgia Dome are on sale for a limited time this week.

The Norcross High School football team (14-0) is headed to the Georgia Dome on Saturday to take on Lovejoy High School (13-1) for the state championship. Tickets are available for $18 (cash only) at the school's main office or you can purchase them through Ticketmaster or at the gate for $20. Viewfinder: Power Soccer Premier Cup in Norcross

Lucky Shoals hosted the wheelchair soccer, one of the first competitive sports leagues for people with disabilities.

The United States Power Soccer Association held its 2011 Premier Conference Cup at Lucky Shoals Park in Norcross this weekend. Hosted by Royalty Power Soccer out of Lawrenceville, the tournament showcased the top 10 teams of the country; including Georgia, California, Arizona, and Indiana. USPSA developed the first competitive team sports for athletes with disabilities that include quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. A soccer game designed for players in power wheelchairs the game is played in a regulation basketball court with two teams of four people.  Using their wheelchairs the players kick a 13-inch soccer ball around the court as they defend it from the other team.
