A Norcross merchant has a passion for all things wine.
The only hint of what lay behind the doors of a plain brick office building off Old Peachtree Road is a stylized sign: the seductive curve of a wine glass. Inside the showroom is one of the largest collections of wine antiques in the world: A metal wine container from the French Army labeled “Vin,” an empty bottle of 1906 Chablis, bottle stoppers of all imaginable shapes, piles of old corkscrews that dare to make the new contraptions look inelegant. This is Mark Barlow’s wine-loving wonderland. If you’re like me, you’ve always wondered what decadent treats lay behind the doors of Maggie Lyon Chocolatiers at 6000 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. It's a retail store and national wholesaler that was once awarded the exclusive Olympic license to make all of the chocolates for the 1996 Olympics. If you've lived in the Southeast, especially Georgia, you're more than familiar with the 24/7-restaurant with the blocky black-and-yellow sign. Owner to 1,600 active restaurants in 25 states, Waffle House has grown tremendously since its initial 1955 restaurant opening in Avondale Estates. Back then, it was a solitary restaurant. Today, an average of 107 cups of coffee and 132 waffles are served per day in a single restaurant. Nationwide, it's more than 171, 200 cups of coffee and 211,200 per day. Per week, the number reaches almost 1.2 million cups of coffee and 1.5 million waffles.
