The 6-foot-5-inch Lorenzo Carter says he plans to visit the University of Florida, Florida State and South Carolina this summer.
Norcross High's Lorenzo Carter is keeping his options open regarding his future college football career. But, it seems the entire college football arena wants him -- and badly. A top-notch defensive end, the junior has 32 college offers already, according to Rivals.com. He is considered one of the nation's top 10 overall prospects. This past football season, he helped lead Norcross High to a state title. And, in basketball this year, he played on the school's state championship team, as well. One of the latest schools to join the Lorenzo Carter bandwagon is the University of Florida Gators. Greater Atlanta Christian came in second overall while Norcross placed 24th at the Georgia High School Association meet, which was held May 2-4 in Jefferson, Ga.
Led by individual wins by Tyler Woodrome and Michael Cheeks, Mill Creek won the Class AAAAAA boys track and field championship, held May 2-4 in Jefferson, Ga. Mill Creek finished with 59 points to beat second-place Hillgrove, which had 43. Brookwood (35 points) was third, Shiloh (30) fifth and North Gwinnett (27.5) sixth. The two schools are among 14 county teams playing in the Georgia High School Association baseball tournament.
Norcross High and Greater Atlanta Christian School are among the Gwinnett teams playing in the state baseball playoffs this week. The Georgia High School Association baseball tournament begins Friday, May 3, with first-round double-headers in six classifications. Gwinnett County will be well-represented by 14 teams in five of those divisions. Both Norcross and GAC are playing away games this week. The Blue Devils will be against Johns Creeks in the Class AAAAAA tournament, and the Spartans are aiming for the Class AA title against Pepperell. Norcross High School is receiving a special award for its athletic program from the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame. According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, the award comes after a a successful year for the school. NHS became the first school in the Georgia High School Association program to win the Class AAAAAA titles in football, boys basketball and girls basketball in the same academic year. Norcross will be recognized at the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 22, which will take place at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Check out the GDP article for more details. Students, faculty, parents and school supporters gathered Tuesday afternoon to officially dedicate the newly constructed student courtyard.
Norcross High School students now have a new after-school place to hang out - and it's been designed just for them. Located in the area surrounding the flag pole on the front right of the school, the "Blue Devil Plaza," which was named by Jazmine McDonald, a NHS senior, was officially dedicated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. It features a paved area with a number of outdoor benches and large rocks for sitting and newly planted trees for shade. The former grassy area went un-used before Bob Chapin, former co-president of the Norcross High School Foundation of Excellence (a non-profit fund raising group for the school) and several other board members decided to put their heads together to see if they transform …

Point guard Brandon Goodwin of Norcross High has been added to the 2013 recruiting class.
Brandon Goodwin of Norcross High recently announced his commitment to the University of Central Florida for the fall. According to the OrlandoSentinel.com, the Blue Devils basketball player confirmed his decision after a weekend visit to UCF. "[It’s] been a long ride but [I’m] committing to the University of Central Florida #UCF #Knights, very excited for the future," Goodwin wrote from his Twitter account. He also was being pursued by Ole Miss, Auburn, Houston and Western Kentucky, according to the website. In the Class AAAAAA state championship game in March, Goodwin helped the boys team win the title and beat Hillgrove by scoring 22 points, with a final score of 60-48. Mizuno Golf gave brand new golf bags to each team member on the Norcross High team.
The 24-member Blue Devils golf team recently received an unexpected gift - a brand new bag for each golfer this season - thanks to a generous donation by Mizuno Golf. When the season started a few weeks ago Chris Hall, Norcross High's golf coach, began looking into the cost of getting bags for the school's two dozen players. But even discounted, the bags would be around $100 a pop, he estimated. He had a contact at the Mizuno Golf manufacturing plant in Peachtree Corners, Curtis Brown, and decided to place a call. "I called him and said 'I'd really like to get bags for the team, can we work out a deal?'" Hall remembered. Brown, who has a daughter attending NHS, did better than that - he arranged to have Mizuno donate 26 brand new golf bags…

The Greater Atlanta Christian boys won the Class AA title while both teams for Norcross claimed the titles for Class AAAAAA.
It was a successful weekend for basketball teams in Norcross-area schools. On Friday, Greater Atlanta Christian won its third boys basketball state title in four years with a 69-52 win over Bleckley County in the Class AA finals at the Macon Centreplex. The championship was the sixth Georgia High School Association boys hoops title in school history. For the Class AAAAAA title, the Lady Blue Devils beat North Gwinnett 63-42. The Saturday win is the Norcross girls' third GHSA championship in four seasons. After the girls game, the Norcross boys completed an amazing sweep with the defeat of Hillgrove 60-48. The state basketball championships are this weekend, and three Norcross-area teams are competing in it. The Greater Atlanta Christian School boys are competing for the Class AA title, and both the girls and boys for Norcross High are competing for their Class AAAAAA titles.
