Downtown Norcross was blooming last Saturday.
Downtown Norcross was in full bloom this past Saturday with the Blossom Tour. Featuring six gardens, the tours were a way to jump right into the warmer weather months. Locals observed the lawns of four downtown homes, the Norcross Garden Club and Norcross Community Garden, and a variety of plants were also for sale so that attendees could beautify their own yards. Professional gardeners were available to give tips on the trade, and kids decorated rain barrels. Check out the different shots from the weekend of flowers, gardening, vegetables and planting. The Little Red Barn's artist sale and an art opening of resident Susie Schlar's work also took place that day.

Check out the artist sale during Blossom Tour weekend.
The artist sale may be called The Little Red Barn, but it doesn't take place inside anything resembling a farm. Instead, you can find the sale in the front yard of the Historic Downtown home of Alice Van Veens, a Norcross native who restores old furniture into shabby chic and eclectic pieces. The sale, which started at last year's Blossom Tour, features hundreds of one-of-a-kind items: vintage-style dressers and nightstands, colorful accessories, repurposed windows, ceramics, whimsical decorative pieces and more. The first sale only had Van Veens and three other artists selling jewelry, home items and things inbetween, but they expanded when the second sale took place in November. This time around, Van Veens and the gang decided to make an…

A fence and walkway have been added to the garden, in addition to two new beds, which will help feed five local families.
The month of April has been busy for volunteers and Sustainable Norcross members at the city's community garden. The Norcross Community Garden, which has been at its College Street location behind the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center since last summer, has plans to donate food to five families this year. This month, two beds were added to help the families through the Latin American Association, which is located next to the garden. On Saturday at 9 a.m., in conjunction with the Blossom Tour, the parents and 12 children of the families will work on the gardens and get them ready for planting a variety of organic vegetables for their personal kitchens. Sustainable Norcross Chairwoman Connie Weathers said that corn has already been…
