Support the Boy Scouts at 45 South's Potluck Dinner
Bring a side dish and a small donation to help out Boy Scout Troop #1212 at the downtown Norcross cafe Thursday, March 14.
Who doesn't love a potluck dinner, especially if it's for a good cause? 45 South Cafe is hosting a supper of its own at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, to support the Boy Scout Troop #1212. The group meets at Christos Community Church off Brook Hollow Parkway. Guests are asked to bring a side dish and a small donation to the event. The downtown Norcross cafe will supply the drinks and barbecue brisket as the main dish. Owner Keith Shewbert said he would like to hold a potluck dinner every quarter to support a different organization every time. Don’t miss any Norcross news. 45 South Cafe to Hold 'Blind' Wine Tasting Wednesday
The cafe in downtown Norcross will allow tasters to guess the scents and flavors of four different wines.
Downtown Norcross' 45 South Cafe will have a blind wine tasting Wednesday, March 6, as part of its monthly wine tasting series. For $10, guests will be able to try four different wines and try to guess the scents, flavors and possibly the varietals based only on smell and taste. No, guests won't be blindfolded, but the bottles will be covered, according to 45 South co-owner Jeanette Osowski. Wine connoisseur Michelle Nguyen-Foust will host the event. The tasting starts at 7 p.m. at the 45 S. Peachtree St. location. Nguyen-Foust also will have a second blind tasting at the cafe owners' Duluth location, 45 on Main, formerly Chocolate Perks. Duluth's Chocolate Perks Renamed to 45 on Main
After purchasing the Duluth coffee shop last year, the owners of Norcross' 45 South Cafe have changed the name of their latest business venture.
Chocolate Perks in downtown Duluth has a new name. 45 on Main, a café and coffee house, is celebrating its grand opening at Chocolate Perks’ former location on Main Street in Duluth. Keith and Jeanette Shewbert, who own 45 South Cafe in downtown Norcross, also own 45 on Main. They bought Chocolate Perks from founding owner Marsha Bomar and assumed ownership Aug 1. A new menu implements several new sandwiches and salads at 45 on Main. The menu still includes breakfast items. Both cafes serve beer and wine. Wine tastings are continuing at both locations. PDC Members Celebrate Holiday With Potluck, Toys for Tots Party
Norcross residents, business owners and other usual Progressive Development Committee members held a holiday party at 45 South Cafe for a good cause.
In addition to their usual Wednesday morning meeting, Progressive Development Committee members met Tuesday evening at 45 South Cafe for their holiday party. Norcross residents, business owners and other usual PDC members celebrated the season with drinks, food, friends and neighbors. All guests were asked to bring a side dish and an unwrapped toy, which were donated to Toys for Tots. Keith Shewbert, the owner of 45 South, said the party brought more than 100 gifts. The wine was provided by Marilyn Meacham of the Remax-Nancy Minor Team, Al Karntiz of Ace Truck Body & Trailer Repair Inc. supplied the beer, and the entrees included roasted turkey and ham, which Shewbert cooked. Musician Kate Wright also sang for the group.

Wine Tastings Are Back at 45 South Cafe
The owners also are hosting the event at their newest location, Chocolate Perks, in Duluth.
Owners Keith Shewbert and Jeanette Osowski of 45 South Cafe are bringing back their monthly wine tastings at the cafe and their newest venture, Chocolate Perks in downtown Duluth. Wine consultant Michelle Nguyen-Foust, who worked with the owners two years ago and helped run the wine tastings and build the retail wine side of 45 South, is working with them again on growing the wine side of the two businesses. Patch spoke with Nguyen-Foust to get the scoop on the revived happenings. Norcross Haunted History Walks Begin Friday
After guiding a VIP tour last Saturday evening, the spooky tour is now open to the public!
Guests were guided Saturday night by the city's old shovel dragging grave digger who can recall many of the lives and deaths of those "Souls of Norcross" he has interrred in the cemetery that sits on the hill across Buford Highway. The group both laughed and shivered as they heard the deathly tales only a dirty old timer can tell. Baseball players Ivey Wingo and Roy Carlyle, mason and Norcross founding father Riley Owen Medlock, and music teacher Ida Wooten have spooky tales that only their tombstones and the bone collector can tell. Haunted History Walks of Norcross is a guided tour that will depart from in front of the 45 South Cafe beginning at 7 p.m. and will depart every hour or so to accomodate guests. Norcross' 45 South Cafe Buys Duluth's Chocolate Perks
Owner Marsha Bomar announces the sale of Chocolate Perks in Duluth to Keith and Jeannette Shewbert of 45 South Cafe in Norcross.
Chocolate Perks, the café and coffee shop on Main Street in downtown Duluth, has been purchased by Keith and Jeanette Shewbert, who own 45 South Cafe in downtown Norcross. The Shewberts assumed ownership of Chocolate Perks on Aug 1. Marsha Bomar, a member of the Duluth City Council, announced she had sold the café, which she opened across from City Hall in February 2009, at a press conference early Friday, Aug. 3, at Chocolate Perks. Keith Shewbert, who bought 45 South when it was called Northern Star on Aug. 1 five years ago, is a former Norcross City Council member.
