The city police department provides 3.8 officers per 1,000 citizens. There are currently 36 officers that cover the 4.5 square miles within the city limits. The Department has two K9 units, two cars with license plate scanners, a SWAT team and a criminal investigations unit, among other public safety services. The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program visits local elementary schools, provides gang resistance training and conducts a Citizens Police Academy. The police chief is Dallas Stidd.
