High School Football

The games don’t count in the standings, but preseason scrimmages are a great first taste of how crazy we are about high school football. Games scheduled Friday, according to Georgia High School Football Daily: Berkmar at Buford, Collins Hill at Archer, Duluth at Dacula, Grayson at Gainesville, Lambert at Lanier, Loganville at Johnson-Gainesville, Lovejoy at Peachtree Ridge, McNair at Meadowcreek, Parkview at Mill Creek, Shiloh at Rockdale, South Gwinnett at Mountain View, Stephenson at North Gwinnett, Wesleyan at Pace Academy, Woodward Academy at Greater Atlanta Christian.

Running through Saturday at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville, this semi-annual sale brings thousands of shoppers looking for deals on slightly used clothing. Hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 14-15, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug, .

Popcorn in the Park

Briscoe Park in Snellville becomes an outdoor theater Saturday, Aug. 17, for Popcorn in the Park. The featured movie is “Oz, the Great and Powerful.” Event starts at 7 p.m. and is free.

“Elvis” is in the Building

New Dawn Theater in Duluth hosts “Tribute to Elvis,” featuring Mark Pitt. The show starts at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets (678-887-5015) are $10-$15.

Everett’s Music Barn in Suwanee has live bluegrass Saturday at 8 p.m. with the band “Counterpoint.” ($15 donation; 770-945-5628). ... "Bobby and the Aristocrats” play MoTown and disco at Thrasher Park in Norcross Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ..."Groovin’ on the Green” at the Loganville Town Green is 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday and features “Critical Velocity.”
