Weathers, Sustainable Norcross Finalist for $5,000 Prize

Connie Weathers was recently nominated for a grand prize for her meteoric efforts as an environmental "hero" in the community. 

The Cox Conserves Heroes program, sponsored by Cox Enterprises and the Trust for Public Land, recognizes the heroes among us who "work to create, preserve, improve or enhance the shared outdoor places in our communities."

A community member nominates a hero, then judges narrow the pool to 20, then to five. Weathers has been selected as one of the five, insuring that she will receive a $1,250 for Sustainable Norcross and the chance at the $5,000 grand prize. 

From helping turn a home demolition into a green community project to creating a community garden, it is easy to see how Weathers got down to the final five in the metro Atlanta area.

Now, how to win the $5,000? Online voting will take place in upcoming weeks. Weathers asks that members of the community "like" Sustainable Norcross Facebook page, where she will communicate for information about the voting process as it becomes available. 

"None of this would be possible without the many wonderful volunteers of Norcross," Weather wrote in a note.
