Meet Eli, an 11-month old Boykin Spaniel/Irish Setter mix. Eli is a wonderful fellow who's a "teenager" in dog years and is looking for that perfect home to grow into an adult version of the handsome boy he is today. He possesses true Setter qualities: loving, loyal, devoted, smart and very willing to please - the perfect companion dog.
Eli was dropped off at a vet's office late one evening by a couple who were divorcing and no longer wanted him. Through no fault of his own, Eli was abandoned, left scared and alone, with no way of knowing why his family had chosen to "divorce" him, too.
He is a very loving, smart, intelligent dog who wants to be with his humans and wants to please them in everything he does. He can "sit" and will fetch and bring back his ball to you as many times as you'll throw it for him. He loves his toys and will spend lots of time playing with them.
Eli is a very good "listener" who would be ideal for a family or a couple, and would be perfect for someone working from home, or retired, as he still has some moments of separation anxiety where he whines and paces when left alone. This behavior stems from how he was abandoned at such a young age, and he should grow out of it after adoption into a home where he feels safe, loved and wanted.
Eli is crate-trained and is the perfect gentleman in his foster home when not crated. He is mostly house-trained but would really benefit from being in a home where his training would continue, with a doggie door leading outside to a fenced-in, secure back yard.
He does well with children, is non-aggressive but very playful so very small children would not be ideal, has shown some interest in cats but is not obsessed with them, and gets along with other dogs. Eli shows great respect for his foster's senior dog.
He is heartworm negative, has been vetted, neutered, microchipped and is up-to-date on all shots. If you think Eli would be the ideal companion for you and you are interested in meeting this wonderful boy, email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
