Local Business Supports Lake Lanier Polar Plunge

ETI Software Solutions is sponsoring a Gwinnett police officer in a Special Olympics fundraiser where he'll be swimming in Lake Lanier.

ETI Software Solutions, a local telecommincations software developer, is sponsoring Gwinnett County Police Officer Shane Kelly in a fundraiser for the Special Olympics--but it's not your typical fundraiser.

In the Polar Plunge, participants will plunge into Lake Lanier to raise funds for the cause, according to a press release. Kelly will be swimming in the cold waters Saturday, Feb. 18, with hundreds of other law enforcement officers and 250 locals.

"The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics," said Kelly in the press release. "Last year police officers and agencies across Georgia raised nearly $700,000 for children with intellectual disabilities, and we are aiming to raise even more this year."

Special Olympic athletes in Georgia total 23,078 this year, and will compete in more than 23 sports--all at no cost to the athlete or their family.

“Giving these children the chance to develop physical fitness, to demonstrate the courage they all possess and to experience joy with the support of their friends and family--that’s what the Special Olympics provides,” said ETI’s Chairman and CEO Pete Pifer. “We are thrilled to help raise money for this cause and be a part of such a worthwhile community event.”
