Dave Ramsey for President?

I got a double dose of Dave Ramsey late last week and I can't tell you how refreshingly sane this man is.  I propose he run for president - he certainly has more sense than any of our other choices.  But, of course, he is far to wise to be a part of the political circus.

What is it that makes Dave so brilliant in my opinion? Well, it is that he's not brilliant. Smart - yes, well-educated - yes, articulate - yes; but he gets my vote for his common sense, old fashioned values, hard work and perseverance.  These characteristics are in short supply now-a-days. My father embraces the same qualities as Dave, and I am fortunate that he passed them on to me. He took advantage of educational opportunities, worked hard, shunned status symbols (there was never a Mercedes in our driveway), saved for a rainy day, achieved success through small business ownership and he and my mom are enjoying their golden years in comfort and with financial security.

I wish our country would wake up and take responsibility for itself, but that's not happening. Individuals must chart their own course and not rely on the government. We must live on less that we earn. We must save for emergencies, retirement and children's college expenses.  We need to pay our bills and stay out of debt.  I counsel people every day who are mired in an endless series of payments because they can't say no to themselves and they can't stay out of the mall.  Grow up, people! There is nothing flashy about the things I teach.  But if you strive for healthy financial habits you will certainly have a sense of accompishment and security!
