Norcross Teens Are Area's Fastest in Peachtree Road Race

A pair of 17-year-olds were the fastest runners from Norcross in the 2012 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, Atlanta’s popular Fourth of July foot race.

According to unofficial results posted Wednesday afternoon by the Atlanta Track Club, Nicholas Del Guerico, 17, and Katherine Yost, also 17, were the top runners from the area.

Del Guerico finished 74th among the men, 85th overall, in a time of 34 minutes, 17 seconds (chip time). Yost was 76th among the women, and sixth in her age group, in a time of 41:24.

Kenyan Peter Kirui won the 10-kilometer race through Midtown Atlanta with a time of 27:37. Mamitu Chepkurui of Ethiopia was the women’s overall winner in 32:22.

More than 57,000 runners participated in the annual Fourth of July road race.

Other top local finishers:

Chris Willis, 17, was 106th overall in a time of 34:55.

Jordan Herbert, 17, was 181st overall in a time of 36:23.

Other top men: Matt Sutton, 16, 227th overall, 37:12; Jacob Winters, 17, 287th overall, 38:10; Derrick Woodfield, 25, 600th overall, 41:10; Michael Nash, 42, 645th overall, 41:26; Victor Serrano, 34, 652nd overall, 41:28.

Other top women: Rachelle Kuramoto, 225th among women, 45:49; Amelia Watson, 18, 235th, 46:08.
