Eye on Olympics 2012: Spotlight on Amanda Weir

All of Gwinnett will have Brookwood graduate Amanda Weir to cheer on in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay in the 2012 London Olympics.

On Friday, July 27, all eyes will be on London as the 2012 Summer Olympics officially begins.

Gwinnett County's Amanda Weir, a Brookwood High graduate, will take part in the Games of the XXX Olympiad. The Lawrenceville native already has two silver medals and six national titles to her credit.  

According to PMGSports.com, she is the fastest American female and a world record holder in the 4 x 100m medley relay.

She was Swimmer of the Year twice while she was at Brookwood.  She qualified for the 2004 Olympics as soon as she graduated.  Weir also led the Broncos to three consecutive State 5A team titles, according to USCTrojans.com, setting the high school state record in both the 50 and 100 yard free and earning All-America distinction in nine events.

  • Nine World Championship medals

In her free time, she is a fashion designer. No doubt some like will be closely watching Weir's progress in London.
